Default 370ci - change heads &cam?

I've been considering a rebuild just for the heck of it. I can get a good6.0L truck crank and block and do the rebuild myself. But my question is about h/c. Is my g5x3 too small? And with my heads I wasthinking about just hand smoothing the ports, but they're milled .030". Would that increase my compression too much? What can I do about that?

Both head and cam will work great. Just get some -2cc pistons

No. It will have slightly better street manners due to the additional cubes.

I would never put cruddy old heads on a new short block with out at least doing a valve job and seals, new springs and pressure testing the castings. Considering what all that costs, you'd probably be better off buying a new pair of cnc ported LS2/LS6 heads from PRC or Patriot. You'd be money ahead and it would be a big performance gain.

Use custom pistons. Most of the sponsors on this site that sell pistons can probably tell you what pistons you need if you tell them the rest of your combo. They'll need to know intended use (n/a, boost, spray), deck height, gasket thickness, chamber cc, desired compression ratio...

To the OP: How do you like those heads, btw? I am strongly considering them when I decide to get a new set...

I'd gladly buy them again. As for taming my cam, it's plenty tame. That's why I was thinking about it being too small on a 370... it's perfect on my 346.

I ran a 232/234 113 in my 370 with 12:1 SCR and made a healthy 453rwhp and 423 rwtq.

The X3 is a bit bigger, it is a good cam for a 370.

Guess I over looked that. My bad. Yeah, they'd work pretty well.

Using this calculator and my 59cc heads and a .042" Cometic, I'm finding a SCR of 12.5. Not good.

Anybody have another calculator?

No doubt... pianoprodigy made this them seemingly disappeared I tinkered with this thing for hours before I delved into my cam hunt.

Yeah, he kind of pulled a vanishing act. I haven't seen him around here in a long time either.

So how would my cam/heads/intake turn out on a 383? 408? I figure they'd be too crappy for a 408... it'd have a dyno graph like a Duramax probably. Just curious, as I think I've come across a good deal on a stroker crank to use for my buildup.
