Default HELP!!!! New 383 Stroker NO OIL PRESSURE!!!

Hey Guys,

I'm not a bad mechanic but this one has me stumped. 2002 Mallett Hammer Corvette Z06. Swapped out my blown up 5.7L for a new 383 (Stroked 2004 style LS6) short block. Swapped everything over... installed it and fired it up. It runs fine but there's NO oil pressure what so ever. I've done this about 4 times all together running the motor for 10-60 seconds each time. This is what I've checked so far.

Oil level is fine.

Installed a new oil pressure sensor... (the sensor on the the back of the motor next to the cam sensor)
...no change still 0 pressure.

Got a manual oil pressure gauge to hook up to the front oil galley port but its not metric thread so its worthless.

Took off the oil filter and it sprays out oil when it's cranked.

Dumped oil into the Oil Pressure Sensor hole... (Last ditch effort)... still nothing

The gauges go through their "warm up" when the ignition just fine so I'm guessing the guage has power.

Is the pump cavitating... does it need primed.

I'm pretty sure that all my grounds are hooked up. Was getting some B2500 trouble codes for a bunch of random **** like turn signals and back up lights but I just cleared them.

Please help me out guys!!!
Rick

If you're an expert and have fixed this before give me a ring.

When you put the engine together did you check to see if the front core plug is in. You have to pull the timming cover off and its right behind the oil pump. On the driver side front.

I looked at my old block and I think I found the plug that you're talking about. Honestly I'm not sure whether my new block had one or not. I'll talk to my short block builder and see if it came with it because it obviously didn't get switched over from the old one. If that's the case then I'm glad that I might have found the problem... unfortunately I'll have to rip the entire front of the damn engine apart to get at it... oh yea... and I've got a Vette so I'll have to lift the engine up to get the harmonic dampner off... I'll keep the thread updated.

Dont lift it, pull the steering rack. 2 big bolts hold it in, then use an 18mm flare wrench on the lines. It will make everything alot easier.

Theres also a plastic plug in the back of the block, in the same oil galley. Gotta pull the back cover off to see it.
Either of these (missing) will net zero oil pressure.

Also dont overlook the O-ring for the oil pump. Just dealt with this on a friends truck durring a heads cam swap and instead of low oil pressure like whats common with more pinched O-rings, he had absolutly nothing.

Might also check the bypass valve.. could be stuck open or part way open.

The best place to tap a oil pressure sending unit.

yea i would check the oil galley plugs... i missed the rear one on my old car w/ a 402.

it sucked...

but also check the o-ring on the oil pump. that's a simple fix. they get pinched or twisted and obviously doesn't provide a sufficient seal.

the rear oil galley plug

which goes here. this required me removing the trans again.

goes in like this

then there's a front 15.68mm plug that goes in the front side of the oil galley.
