Default Help LS1Motor Problems

Well guys I raced my car on Sat.I won the first race,on the second I hurt my motor. It is making a realy bad ratiling noise, sounds like its coming from the passenger top side of the motor but can be heard under the car also.I havent lost oil press and the car starts up fine.I started it yeaterday and when I started it she rattled realy bad and 30 secs later it stoped and olny could be heard when reved.Im looking for some opinons and ideas. It is a 98 LS1 with 35k on the car.I think it could be valvetrain or a rod knock but I hope not.

My LT1 made a ticking sound for about 2 months, then she locked up while going down the interstate. So my advice is if you dont want to have to buy another engine, then you need to park it and find the culprit.

I was thinking a valve spring also, but the car doesnt realy sound like its missing and it isnt constint. It comes and goes but is always there if you rev it.I am not driving it anymore.Im gonna change the oil and filter thriough it today, then start taking the valves off.

If you spun a rod bearing, it'd be pretty apparent..if you spun a main, your pressure would peg cause the oil holes wouldn't line up properly.

Chances are it's in the valvetrain somewhere. did you pull the valve cover off?

It's the fact it comes and goes that makes it hard to figure out.

I had a friend we just put a cam in his car. it was constant but making the same noise. He had two broken stock pushrods.

well I figured out that the inital noise when you start the car is dry start,so the oil pump is def no good weather or not that caused any further damage,I will wait till I get the oil pan off to inspect the bearings. The other noise is coming from the top rear passenger valvetrain.I hope to have the valve cover off today.

I just drained the oil and filterd it out nothing came out on the screen that I could see. There was a spec of metal and some dust stuck to the oil drain plug!
