Thanks! I'm glad I got the low-down on Strope's before making a mistake...I guess I'll have to contact Mikey @ Rapid!

lawman,
there is nobody close that is reputable (especially for tuning), you'll have to take it to a sponsor.

I regret that I didnt go to ARE in the first place. After reading all the glowing reports in GMHTP magazine about Stropes,I thought why make a 1,000 mile round trip to Canada.Well the 160 mile trip to the clowns at Stropes cost me alot more than a long drive to the great white north ever did.Guys dont be afraid to drive a little ways for proven quality.Trust me you will forget about the extra mileage if you get a trouble free finished product.I wasted about $7,000.00 to go to the "close guys".

The feedback on Rapid has all been favorable...they're only about 4 hours away, so they are now my main choice...Although I've had excellent experiences buying from Speed, Inc., they're a little far (~10 hours one way)

Question: Can my car be dyno-tuned at the time of H/C install, or is there a break-in period necessary prior to tuning? I'd like to avoid repeated trips across PA!

I'm heading out to Rapid on Thursday for tuning. I live in Pittsbugh when I'm not in school so I know that it sucks not having a good shop close by. Anyway, I talked to Mike on the phone today and he was very helpful. He knows his stuff.

LawmanSS01- Where in Pittsburgh are you? I'm in the South Hills.

Sorry about getting here a little late and merely adding a me too to the long list of me toos. I took my Impala SS to them to get a great alignment because they came recommended from a friend as well as being the only shop to show up on Hunter's equipment search (they had the only rolling resistance balancer in W PA back then). Needless to say, about 6 hours later they finally had the tires balanced (I already had them mounted) and almost got the alignment to my specs...the specs that my alignment guy in MI was able to do repeatedly. The a-hole that was doing the work was some self important SOB that drove a black supercharged Corvette with a camera mount. He had no problem telling me that what I wanted was stupid and I would be sorry. Really tried his best to belittle me because I was trying to autocross an Impala SS. Finally, got into a pissing match with Bill Strope at the end of the day since it was after hours (I had been there since before lunch) and he was jacked that I tied his ace mechanic up all day with my alignment spec. Should have stood my ground, but I needed to get home, so I just paid and left. In hindsight, I should have not paid, had my wife come pick me up and confronted him in the morning.

I thought it was a fluke experience, but after reading all the other bad experiences, I will never ever set foot in that crook's shop again. Thanks for letting me share my misery.

Small world, I lived on Thompson Run until about 3 months ago...just up past the fun curves north of Seibert. My black Impala SS sat in the driveway there for about 4 years.

When I get my GTO, we can go out for some rice on McKnight Rd. I see them at Starbucks all the time.

I'm guessing you mean Mikey from Rapid. I haven't been there yet, but am hoping to have him install my MTI heads/TR cam and dyno tune...waiting for heads to come in. He gave me a reasonable price quote... I can't wait! I believe he charges $450 for dyno-tune, but don't quote me on it! Mapquest says about 270 miles from my house in North Hills With a "get out of jail free" card, should only take a few hours...

I live in Ohio(20 miles east of Cleveland) and I trailored my SS 8 hours to Mikey @ Rapid, drove 8 hours back. Then a few weeks later drove another 8 hours to pick up the car and another 8 hours trailoring it back. Mikey does top notch work and is VERY reasonable with prices on parts and LABOR. He installed my ARE H/C, RAM clutch, Moser 12 bolt, BMr SFC, oil pump, and ED WRIGHT did the tune because LS1 edit wasn't out yet. My SS dynoed 414RWHp through a Moser 12 bolt with 4.10s and AFS chrome 17x11s with 315s. There wasn't a scratch any where....he is awesome and he really does appreciate his customers. You won't be sorry!
