My 2000 SS had the worst piston slap I had ever heard. And it only got worse. Especially when it got winter time. O my God, the sound level went up exponentially then. Now with the LS6, it makes some funky *** noise, but it doesn't sound like piston slap. It only makes it until the oil temp gets to exactly 120* then it goes away. Wierdest thing I've ever seen (heard, actually). I was just messing around under the hood while I was letting it warm up one day and squeezed a hose (can't remember which one now but I THINK it was either a vaccuum or PCV hose or somehting like that. And it went away while I squeezed it. Never pursued it any farther, but it just scares me to think what is going on inside there

I got nice piston slap till I get about 2 miles down the road...then it quits. Or at least I can't hear it over the exhaust anymore.

Mine wines a bit when i'm driving under 10 mph, especially when i'm steering hard, but i think that's just the power steering. As far the engine itself, sound pretty normal w/ a knock here and there... nothin' too bad.

You probably squeezed the AIR injection inlet hose and made it stop blowing air. The air system makes some weird *** noises until it quits as the engine warms. That'd be my guess.

mvvette97 that is EXACTLY what mine sounds like! Funny you put the camera down by the tire, most of my sound seems like it's coming from under the engine too, ESPECIALLY when I've got a car or concrete barrier next to the car at a light. I'm running Patriot dual springs and an LSK intake lobe (228 dur, .639 lift) with stock rockers and thought I was really noisy.. I wonder if swapping to the YT ultralights would help?

its time to update my answer,

when i had the tock motor.. there came no sounds from the engine bay.. just some vbelt whine..

now after i installed the H/C/I alot of sound comes from there.. some valvetrane noise.. and i feel like there is a piston slap also... its seems to be getting better with the miles i drive it,

After my cam swap it sounded a lot louder under the hood. I was worried about it at first, then after 100 6500rmp shifts I figured it was fine. Its just how ls1s are.

I have a T-rex cam and the first time i started it i freaked out thinkin something was wrong... you want alot of valve noise start it with open headers after a cam swap.. you can hear everything through the not exsisting pipes... lol

Mine is loud, sounds like air gushing .. oh ya it is air, getting sucked into the airbox. You can hear my car breathing, not the rockers so much but air being sucked into an opening. You dont want loose clothing in front of my airbox.

These sorts of noises freaked me out too for awhile. When I was stock it was pretty quiet, but after I got a tune it is definitely louder. It seems to be running just fine, so no complaints I guess.

i dont have any knocking or piston slap but i would imagine if something was wrong it woulda blown by now... i have a cam so that makes it sound alot louder but nothing i can't stand. if you have the windows up and i'm at about 2k it sounds like a million sewing machines but thats normal... for the amount of power these engines produce i dont care what noises it makes if its normal that is
