my goodness! it seems we have a little specialist on our hands huh?

The LS1 is a great motor, but im not impressed with the bottom end flying apart like that. if it had been the rod bolts I wouldnt bad talk it so much, but when the bolts are fine and the rod broke like that, then it makes me think it wasnt this "all mighty touched by God engine"

as far as me being "dumb" kiss my ***, I could run goddamn circles around some people on this site, mechanical things may not be my specialty, but theres plenty of **** I could do that you and the others cant. the way you explained it to him made you sound like a ****** idiot. "all motors after the 80's are forged" Forged how?

If you didnt like my response, its the net, take it with a grain of salt. otherwise get off my ***.

I told him, What is the point of buying forged rods....

He says you dont have to...

So Whats the real answer?
"Forging" is the term used for a processing of material.

The "type" of material used determines it's strength and durability over time

Aftermarket "forged" rods are of a higher strength/quality material when compared to stock LSX-based rods

Hope that helps

and that happened on START up, so much for the LS1's "strong" bottom end huh?

Something was obviously wrong with that start up, like a cylinder full of water. Hydro lock will break the best of all rods. Water does not compress. I highly doubt it just fell apart.

nothing was in the cylinder. something just came loose, maybe it dropped a valve, there were marks on the top of the piston.

You shouldn't jump to conclusions based on a photo.

My Woman's STOCK WS6 motor with 70,xxx miles on it BLEW UP on start-up last year

It was STOCK with a loudmouth exhaust at the time

She started the car . . . it attempted to crank to an idle . . . MAD NASTY CLATTER . . . 2 big holes in the block and a puddle of mess on the ground with some startled neighbors.

Dude . . . it was BAD.

We had an extended warranty on Her '01 LS1 and the description at the dealership on the invoice was "CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE." For some reason, I thought the description was funny as he!!

"catastrophic engine failure" aint the words.

I put 2 holes through my block, and a fissue from #2 all the way back to #8, the oil pan and broke that rod n piston as you can tell. It hurt me bad though, we had a car rebuilt from a total loss finlaly on the road, and waiting for a hood and that happened. it pissed me off even worse that I spent $15 on a K&N oil filter 3 days before it happened

Forging is a process by which extreme pressure (sometimes up to 750 tons) is used to shape parts (think old blacksmith with a hammer).
Forged powder metal (stock) is exactly that, a powder that is smacked together. Starting from a powder leaves the metal more brittle.
Aftermarket forged rods are solid metal bars that are heated and pressed until they form a shape. The pressing while hot also reduces residual stresses in the metal and makes it more ductile.

Forged powder is much cheaper to make and faster, thats why the factory uses them.

So yes the factory rods are forged, but they are forged powder not forged ingot as many aftermarket ones are.

did u trace back to see what caused the failure of the engine?
stock bottom ends have been capable of over 500rwhp and mid 9's
in a full weight fbody with spray.
the rods in your motor look like pulled taffy, and that is just not common, unless the car sees a heavy dose of spray at low rpm or is hydrolocked
water in the cylinder
