Default TSP 224R vs 228R for my setup...

ive whittled down my cam choice to two options from tsp... the 224r or the 228r... the car is a 2000 z28 m6 with 85k miles... it is my only car, driven every day to work/school... its reliable and needs to stay reliable... i have full bolt-ons minus ls6 intake and ud crank pulley which are coming very soon... i want it to startup and go without having to wait for it to warm up...

i go to the track once a month, maybe once every two months... my only other future major mod will be tsp's ls6 heads (ported) but that is a couple of years in the future... i really dont foresee nitrous but im not going to rule it out...

im not going to lie... a choppy idle and nice sound is important to me... can i get a nice choppy sound out of one of these with say a 111lsa?

another concern of mine are the valve springs... obviously neither of these cams have crazy high lift, but how often would i have to replace comp cams 918 springs? would it be worth going with dual springs so i wont have to worry about replacing them often?

i have a great local tuner that will treat my car right, so no concern there...

help me decide...

edit: oh and also 4.10 gears waiting in my garage until i can find a mechanic i trust in my area...

im going with the 228R on a 112lsa. I did a lot of research on it, and found uot that its a small step up from the 224, but a slightly noticeable gain. It should sound chopier than the 224 with the same lsa as well

How many miles do you plan on putting on this dude? What's your budget?

A guess for valve springs would be every 30k or so? Others should jump in on this one. That said, I don't know what lobes those cams are on and that will affect spring life too

On the other end of the budget from a cam/spring swap, you could add AFR heads and a FAST 90/90 and probably pick up 50 rwhp and torque with no downside to reliability and add MPG. That's pricy though. Just don't expect to drop a cam in there without compromise. Even the best packages won't have stock reliability/maintenance though several can get stock-ish drivability with a good tune.

Consider your plans for the car and your realistic situation before tearing into the engine.

i plan on keeping the car for another 4 years or so, and are u saying the single valve springs will last 30k? or the duals?

so is the most common 228r on a 112lsa? i was hoping to hear some 110s and 111s...

anyway... i think im leaning 228

You could do the best of both worlds 224/228 .581/.588 110 or 112 or 114...I'm using that cam with the 110 LSA and the car pulls great makes 375 ft. lbs. tq. at 3000 rpms...forget theose 918s and get yourself some PRC dual springs and they will last a long time..I ran a set of PRC duals on a TSP torquer cam for 43000 miles and they were still good when they were replaced..
