Default Help Me Get A Set Of Heads

Here's my set up so far. Stock cubes (planning 383 down the road), 90/90, Comp 238/242 605/609 on 112, Pacesetter Headers, M6, 3.42 rear.

I was planning on Patriot LS6 Stage II 64cc. Mostly for the price. My question is, will I get alot better performance with different heads.

Help me get the best bang for the buck!!

Patriot are good bang for the buck. You might want to consider getting them milled down to about 59cc and flycut accordingly.. I think that's what I'm going to do.. I'm missing a LOT of torque running 64cc's.

508 HP with CARTEK 4X LS6 ported heads and 4X cam. Times in sig, 6spd @ 3250lbs.

A friend of mine, [does not post much on this forum] had Patriot heads, got a CARTEK 383. Car put down **** HP. Took off the Patriot heads, put on CARTEK heads, car became a beast.

Patriot heads are cheap, and rightfully so. If you want to buy things once, you buy good heads to begin with. And if you want the most power with factory castings, CARTEK has them. With aftermarket heads you can get awesome numbers with Trick Flow's.

I'm very sure that the Cartek heads and cam packages have been designed to work very well with each other, and that research is why you see good results..

but as for your friend, his cam may have had far far less than optimal valve events for the way the Patriot heads flow, but very good valve events to maximize the Cartek heads. I'm not saying that Patriot heads are as good as Cartek heads or vice versa.. I'm just saying there is a lot more to it than just the heads when it comes to power.

But I have seen several people with Cartek combos and they do run very strong. But again, they key word here is combo Cartek has already taken the thought out of cam selection when you buy their packages.

with a tight split like that, you'll want heads that flow very well on the exhaust side as well as the intake side. AFR and TFS heads have both broken 500rwhp with similar cams. If you really want to max out your potential.. and will be using the heads for your 383 down the road, it would be best not to skimp on the heads. the heads are where the power is ultimately made.

go with TFS or a set of 215 ETP heads. Spend the money once and don't wish you brought something else afterwards. Cheaper is not better. Alex from Cartek has a great combo that makes more power than many aftermarket head combo's out there. He is a example that a set of 241 or 243 heads ported by the right person can make as much or more than many aftermarket combo's.

Well it really comes down to, I dont have the money to spend $2k's+ on a pair of AFR's. Whats the best I can do for like $1200? Can I get my stock 241's reworked with springs etc,?

for 1200 you can send your stock castings in to TEA, or you can buy TSP or Patriot 5.3 heads or LS6 heads. Livernois is probably around that figure also. Most of them will come with valve job and dual springs.

Since you are working with a stock bottom end, we would suggest a set of CNC ported 243's with 2.00"/1.55" oem (non-sodium) valves. These heads will flow very well and offer several advantages. First because of the oem valve size you will have more PTV clearance. Secondly, these heads will be fully ported, come with our 5 angle valve job (performed on our Contour BB), hand blended, milled, and assembled with our Patriot Gold springs. Finally, because of the volume of our business, we are able to offer these for $1095.00 per pair. This will work well for your budget and later on down the road, you can send these to us for upgrades for your 383 build. If you have any questions, please let us know.

i like how thorough the sponsor was with his help though, its good to see attempts like that made to help the guy out. I was kinda thinking the same as him too, i think ported 243s would work pretty good.
