i have heard that sodium filled valves are over rated. I heard that they are a safety deal that GM did on the Z06 motor, sure they help in heat, etc but nothing for performance. They will explode if you throw one against the ground.

Most race heads have Stainless valves.

The lighter the valvetrain, the better.

Well, here is my data point. I just bought some new 243s off ebay (haven't arrived yet, advertised as new). Includes solid valves, no springs. $480 + shipping. Wish I had called Gunnar first. I did go to the Patriot site but there isn't anything about stock 243s there.

I believe(Gunnar correct if wrong) but Patriot uses its own castings, meaning they are not advertised as 243s, nor are they stamped with (243).

For the gains, money, time, and effort the stock LS6 heads are not worth it IMO.

Hollow and sodium filled valves provide quicker rpm's and better valve train stability at higher rpm's.

You have to look under the 'New Products' tab. It's not under LS1/LS6 anywhere. According to their website they are GM 243 castings.

I hear you. I'm set on swapping the cam. Since the motor has 105k miles I want to replace the lifters as well. And while the heads are off I thought I would go with the least expensive head upgrade option. But maybe I should have spent a bit more for the ported ones. Now you got me thinking...

That isnt a bad price if you want to have them ported by TEA or someone along those lines. The valves are worth a decent junk of that.

Actually these are brand new GM 243 castings.
