You got alot of nerve
Your running the 1/8, so you like the "Lil" tracks w/ "Big" cams
LOL
Hey I like my "Lil" cam, and I was close to "400", im looking into a FAST 90/90 next, then I'm buying some nice heads and I should be at 450rwhp by next summer!
I also run AC w no problems, and I never have to worry about my springs for another 40-50k miles.

thats why its confusing as hell to pick a cam. yeah bigger may not be better, but with cars nowadays making lots of power from factory u might need to go a little bigger than your 224 cam. i think if i were to go with a small cam, id go with a 226 cam from patriot. but i do like the TR230/224 and the MTI X1 for street N/A cars though.

no matter wat yall say the bigger the better. when it comes down to N/A that is. u start havin power adders its a different story
That run between you and the T/A with the 232 cam was pretty damn close and its probably easier to live with too.

Not true. If you want a big cam, then spread the LSA for idle and vacuum.. or to preserve PTV, you will have less HP and TQ than a shorter cam on a tighter LSA. LSA is more important than duration.

I love it when the car bucks and lurches like a race car idling in traffic, as long as it doesn't stall easily. My old Z28 had a medium cam (for a 350 with Dart heads) 287 adv. dur. .480 lift 112 LSA. It idled fine at 800 rpm and loped pretty nasty. But I had no a/c and a 4 speed. Idling in first it jerked around like a teenager in the bathtub. I liked pushing in the clutch and whacking it to clean it out. I will go big on this one but it, too, will be properly matched to the combo. Not willing to give up power for sound, gotta have both!

when i started bulding my motor i wanted a healthy but realy "userfriendly" motor, so i went with 59cc heads, big valves, fast 90/90 full exhaust, knock sensor mod and more, and then the 226/226 patriot cam..

i regred that now.. want bigger cam to make the most of the other parts

I have a F-11 cam now, and my buddy had a 150k mile 99 trans am with most the same mods like 12 bolt ls6 intake 6 speed.... but mine has a ported throttle body better exhaust, better tune and everything, and his MS4 killed my car! with see how well his car did with that cam, i ordered one today.

Bigger is not always better, but why the hell do guys build 408's and ****?? cuz bigger is better. LSx>big block rule still apply.

But changing cubes is a whole other can of worms. Once you upgrade from a 346, then I'd definetly recommend something a good bit bigger than the small cams mentioned in this thread.

In the end it's all about personal preference & what you can live with or without to get the power you want. Me personally, I went smaller make tuning simpler, keep my A/C, stay somewhat stealthy & have the exact driveability I did stock. So far I absolutely love my choice & am glad I went the route I did.

The thing about going 402/408 or what ever is it needs a bigger cam, the larger the engine the larger the cam can be and be equal in effeciency. Like a few 408s Ive seen with out of the box AFR225s-shelf grind 238/240 Comp-90/90 through a M6 and 10 bolt will put down 500/500 @ the wheels almost everytime with a decent tune, tweak the heads and intake and get a real good tune then its insane

I was happy with my G5X3(234/242 .598/.610) 112lsa combo. Put down 412/376 with the only other mods being full exhaust, a lid and tune. It Also ran a 12.3 @ 117.55 with a 1.9x (Nitto DRs) '60 on the stock 10 bolt/stock gears. All of this here in hot *** Phoenix...

On the street, the car drove like a dream and pulled like a raped ape when I wanted it to.I never had a problem with hunting for idle on start up be it cold or hot. Driveability was smooth, A/C worked great etc.

I honestly think it all depends on the tuning, personal preferences, and the combo as a whole.

I went from a 224 cam to the T-rex and I love the rex. I would not go back to a small cam again. The rex pulls so much harder than the baby cam that I had before. And my car is my 100% DD.

my list of cams explains my thoughts
g5x3 114 for about a year...blew my motor
then went with a t-rex
now i sold that motor bought a 408 and a 257/266 110 lsa cam.

wen i was cam only with my g5x3 i raced a cam only 224 and we were even from 25 mph-65mph. that convinced me that bigger was goddamned better. this was with an ls1 intake and stock cats with leaking headers.
