Burning 1/2 quart per day?
Hey guys,
My H/C LS1 with 108K on the clock has started to burn excessive amounts of oil. By excessive I mean that on startup I emit a large white smoke cloud, my exhaust tips have a coat of black that is a few mm thick, and my car has definitly lost some power.
Recent mod was having a shop install my heads, but this started about 2 months after the swap.
Any idea to what it can be?
I was thinking rings or valve seals?

You can re-use the valve cover gaskets as long as they are in good shape. Just remove one intake rocker bolt to see if it has thread sealer on it, next I would get a flashlight and shine it down into the hole to see if it is a blind hole or if it goes all the way through into the intake port. If it goes all the way through , the heads have been ported and the rocker bolts will let oil leak into the intake ports if no thread sealer was used. It's worth a shot before just tearing into the engine, sometimes it's the simple things that get over looked. Good luck!

These guys are on to something, pull a rocker bolt, make sure it has thread sealer, if it does or does not, use the flash light and see where it goes, I worked on an engine and had the same situation, cept this was a head swap on a older engine, turns out it had twice as money bolt holes than needed and the dumbass taht put it together didnt realize it.

White clouds are not good.. Good chance it's coolant. If the heads were done recently, it's possible the head gaskets are not having a good seal. Check the oil and see if it smells sweet, or it's milky in color. GL
