Default engine help......ticking on the top end

ok so i have a 2000 ws6, I was bein a dumbass n was racing and accidently over revd my car. Almost instantly we noticed a ticking noise on the top end of the motor coming from cylinder 6 on the passenger side. We think it might possibly be a bent pushrod............any opinions or suggestions?
also, my car has all the EGR BS so we are tryin to figure out what needs to be removed to get in there? and what gaskets are gonna need to be replaced?

thanks

i checked the temp at manifold with a one of those laser thermometers, #6 manifold temps were way lower than the others. the noise is coming from the passenger side for sure.

possibly a collapsed lifter or a bent pushrod (more likely) on the exhaust side if your getting lower temp readings on the manifold. as far as the EGR is concerned, when you take the intake off, take the EGR pump off and throw it away, get a plug for the hole in the intake and cap the EGR bung off on the exhaust manifold.

Could be a lifter, pushrod,or busted valve spring. Broken rocker bolt if you are using aftermarket rockers.

if we leave the egr in place what gaskets need to be replaced to get to the valve covers off? just the two at the exhaust manifolds?

if not. is there a company that offers an egr delete kit?

** never mind. i see thunder racing sells block off plates**

my uncle was over the day chris and i checked out his engine, im not sure if it was the alcohol talking but he insisted that we dump a quart of trans fluid in the engine and run it for a while, because it will clean out the "clogged lifter" ticking in his opinion.

honestly i dont want to eff the engine up anymore. im hoping its just a bent push rod from the revs and loss of traction.

the ticking almost sounds like a bad exhaust leak and increases when reved. only time will tell.

my engine sounded like that too and everyone thought it was a loose rocker or a broken lifter, but to my demise a spun bearing was the final culprit

you dont really need any gaskets for the egr. Just preserve the one you got. It sounds like a bent push rod. Its not a hard fix. AND DON'T DRIVE ON IT I drove on a bent push rod for at most 50 miles. And when I pulled the push rod out and it looked like an 'S' That stunt messed up a lifter, rocker arm, cam and possibly a block. So i am pulling the motor and putting in another stock one.

To change the push rods all you go to do is take the coil packs off the car. Take the EGR valve off the car and remove the hoses from the headers. You don't have to take the intake off. Make sure your twisting the push rod as your pulling it out. Put a hardened one in and make sure you torque the rockers arms.

thanks for the heads up. chris is trying to locate some push rods at the moment. rockers get 22 foot pounds, do i have to TDC the engine of leave it alone?

i used to stick my finger in the #1 spark plug hole and have my dad rotate the my old sbc until the compression stroke blew air out of the spark plug hole. its a red neck way of finding TDC.

I've been told by a few people you don't need to have it at TDC because the lifters automatically adjust. But it wouldn't hurt to do every cylinder at TDC

we threw an scanner on the car, no knock sensor codes, or misfires. ended up pulling the valve covers, rockers, and push rods. nothin. they were all clean. we changed the oil and started it up again. idles good and the tick isnt as loud as it was, but if you give it a tiny bit of RPM it gets really loud and the engine shakes a bit. im thinking its the lifters.

anyone know any good shops in the area who can do heads, cam, and possibly a short block?

did you roll the pushrods against a piece of glass. Just looking at them wont work. IF they are fine then its a lifter issue.

most likely lifters. the motor didn't have much oil in it at all.
