can i start my car with out the underdrive pulley on?

can i start my car with out the underdrive pulley on?
i dont have it machined yet so i was just wondering if i can start it to check for oil pressure and change the first round of oil out.
i just put the motor in by the way.

I dont think so, I mean maybe for a few seconds but without the pulley you have nothing sealing the front of the crank. Also none of the accessories will be driven (ie alternator and WP)
The water pump might not matter for a few minutes but no alternator will kill that battery pretty quick (I would think)
