Default 5.3L vs LS6

I am going to get either the Prc 5.3L 2.5s or the PRC stage 2 LS6s. I am going to run an MS3 and I will not be milling the heads so I do not have to flycutt. The reason being is because I do not want to cut my pistons if I am going to spray the car every weekend. So my question is, which will work better for spray, the 5.3s or the LS6s? I know that the 5.3s will give me a little more compression, but what would be a benefit to running the LS6s with a big cam any spray?

I am pretty sure the heads will wield around the same results N/A, but what about spray?

Thanks guys.

Check out TSP's 5.3L heads... or... I have a set I'll be taking off my truck if you want them... I can cut you a good deal on those as well. you wont have to buy castings from a company, just get mine worked and prepped like you want. they are 706 castings...

I would still check PTV clearance on those heads with that sized cam and 5.3 heads.

I tuned a 97 vette w/ Stg II 5.3 PRCs and MS3- No PTV clearance issues.

I thought that it wasn't recomended to use NO2 on high compression heads like 5.3s.

Nitrous doesn't care what CR you're running. It'll still work

My buddy has the MS3/prc 5.3 combo and he's setup for spray. He hasn't sprayed yet, he waiting until he upgrades his stock 10 bolt. It sounds mean but is a dog until 4k, not my type of cam but hey we're all different. JFYI, he's forged 346 too.

hmmm,... I was just under the impression that you SHOULDN'T run NO2 on high compression heads.

Nitrous loves the compression. And for the record, my flycut pistons are having no problems on the spray. In fact, I've never seen anybody have an issue from it. Just BS theorists who THINK that it MIGHT cause a problem. I say the ringlands will go well before the center of the piston.

The reason I do not want to flycutt is that it will take life off the motor when I spray. I drive this car everyday during thew summer, and race it on the weekends. I do not want to flycutt and take life away from the engine just to some horse power.

And as I said, where did you get the idea that it will "take life off the engine"? I'm not trying to be a jerk, bro. It's just that some people develop these wild ideas and accept them as facts when they have no factual basis at all. So where did you see anybody having such problems? I'd love to know so that I can develop a better informed opinion since I spray on my flycut pistons. As of now I have found only theories with no facts.

I know your not trying be a jerk. I have just heared it and I have seen holes in lsx pistons that have been sprayed. Maybe we should start a thread about flycutting, nitrous, and how it relates to the life of a motor. I think it would be a great thread.

usually the holes are due to a bad A/F ratio, basicly there wasn't enough fuel for the no2 and a it got too hot in the combustion chamber, thus melting a hole

atleast thats what i believe...(i'm a little drunk!)

there is no need to flycut with this combo, just call tsp when you are ready to order and they will sink the valves slightly more for added clearance on the5.3, ms3 combo,my car runs great with this, the smaller runners of the 5.3 have great velocity, which makes the ms3 shine!! IMO!!
