Cam Swap in stock 2000 WS6
I am looking at changing the cam in my 2000 WS6. So far I am interested in the COMP Cams Xtreme XE-R Camshaft
Camshaft, Hydraulic Roller Tappet, Advertised Duration 273/ 279, Lift .581/ .588
Does anyone know anything about this cam?
Is this cam too big for a stock LS1?
Any other suggestions for making some good street/strip power?

No that's the advertised duration, the duration a 0.50 is 224/230. In my opinion no that's no to big for a stock car, but if I 'm thinking correctly that cam isn't computer compatible so you'll HAVE to get a tune. With that in mind you'll have to upgrade you're valve springs, and invest in a set of long tube headers. That cam should have good power gains since the Comp lobes are renowned for making more power than similar cams with the same duration and lift. The XE-R cams also carry more vaccum throughout that helps you keep your brake booster up to operating specs to guarantee proper operation.
Done research on this cam before I decided on the one I bought, great camshaft IMO

whats the lsa? i have the crane 224/224 .551/.551 114 lsa. it does 340whp on a nitrous tune (timing retarded) and 377tq. should be around 360whp with full timing. it sounds completely stock at idle, nice and quiet. on a 150 wet shot it did 507whp, and 616tq!!! however this cam runs out of breath right at 5800rpm. your cam should get you the same numbers... enjoy!!!
oh and this cam is actually tiny for an ls1. ive heard people passing smog on it!

I ended up buyin the F15 cam with .600"/.611" 236"/239 @0.50 and a 111 lsa,but mines not a daily driver either. I simply went this big because I wanted something that pulls hard on the top end and the hotrod sound you pointed out.

The F15 is made by futral motorsports. Anything that high of a lift, you're probably going to suffer a little driveability. The key to any cam is a good tune though. Check out Futral's site they have an entire list of custom ground cams that'll probably catch your eye, www.futralmotorsports.com. Oh yeah and you definately need a set of longtubes, you'll thank us later.

if drivability is a concern I would go with a z06 package. 2002 z06 cam, ls6 intake, and the ls6 heads. with Longtubes and a tune you should be at 400rwhp...car will sound and idle stock but have the power there.
