Default LS1 to LS6 springs

Hey everyone,

I have a few extra $$$$ and I had a few quick questions for my 1999 LS1 Camaro...

I already have my mind set on a set of Chromoly pushrods (7.400").

I have an entirely stock block. Is it OK to put LS6 springs on an entirely stock LS1 block?

If not, what is the appropriate lift for them? .550, .575???

Thanks,
Dana Shaw

Unless you are gonna throw a cam in your car I don't see the point in changeing rods and springs. You should wait until you deside on a cam and then get the appropriate springs and such to match. I'll bet you will end up with 918s or better, not ls6 springs.

I am probably not going to put in a cam, I just want to replace the low-grade GM rods and springs with better stuff. What does everyone recommend?

I'd like to know more about this too. I thought I heard people claim engine pulls harder up top with the LS6 springs, vs LS1's. They aren't that much stiffer, but maybe it's enough to knock out any chance of valve float?

Both are pointless unless youre installing a cam. As far as it pulling harder up top, the butt dyno isnt a reliable source.

A fresh set of LS6 springs is $55. The LS1 springs are marginal when new, as they gain miles it may be worth freshening them up as they will float early when they get up there on miles. Pushrods are probably not required though. You are better off spending the money on a good valve spring tool like the Crane tool that Vinci sells. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Yes the crane tool is badass.

You will thank yourself in the end.
