Help me pick a cam for my 409
In my 346 I had the TR224 112. I LOVED IT!
I would recomend it to anyone looking for a cam. Now that the time has come for the new Alum Block motor to get a cam. I am thinking of 2 to start, but would like some input on what would be appropriate. I am looking for the most power I can get in a single pattern cam. The options so far are Lunati 242 242 .595 112 $345
MTI S1 244 244 .612 112 $399
(MTI recomends this for 427 or LARGER CI? WHY?)
On any cam I will will running dual springs, but what I dont want to do is stretch the limits of those springs and risk failure. Safe is good now after the first motor let go.
Any input from sponsors or addicts are welcome. I have ONE CRITERIA and that is that my head doesnt fall off from the shake! This is why I chose single pattern. Thaks for the help. Bear Trending Topics
My prior 244/244//114 Lunati idled a lot better. I think the ramps were less aggressive but the valvetrain was a lot quieter too, not that sewing machine chatter of an XE-R lobe.

The 244 S1 has more agressive ramps, but I still cant see how it would be that bad in a 409 with the idle at like 1k rpm. This is what id recommend. if you dont like you might be able to bribe me to trade for my 242

We just finished the cam install on Mr.WS6's 422 engine, 244/244/.630/.630 along with Yella Terra rockers, it sounds like Warren Johnsons car! completly sick! lope and idle qualities? well, the engine dosen't shake as much and it's actually smoother than the 236 that we just pulled out, go figure? Anyway, 242 is the highest I would go with for the 409 afer hearing/running this animal.
Joe.
Ahh, another item to add to my bigger is better list!= Cams!

What tranny are you running? If you are running a TH400 the cam size is the least of your worries as far as driveability is concerned

tuning makes a huge difference

Chris
