Default 402/408 LS2 vs. LSX 454

I've been debating which to put into my street driven SS.

Are there any disadvantages to the LSX opposed to the LS2 block, except the weight issue?

Car is essentially street/strip driven, and the LS1 just needs to be replaced now. Has to be reliable and won't be sprayed or FI anytime soon. Just old fashioned NA hp.

I'll be happy with a conservative 500-550 rwhp through a 9" and built T56. The LSX would have my ported LS6 heads and LS6 intake chocking it for a while until I built up funds post swapping for a set of LS7's.

What do you guys think?

I'd go LSX. Why not? It's bigger displacement.

you can make 500-550 with a 402 or 408. the lsx will cost you about an extra 1000.00 for the block alone. cost on the lsx is going to be more. the 402 is going to have about 600.00 in sensors/wiring to make everything work. iron block 408 is the way to go with the least ammount additional costs to make things work.

LSX is what i would go with, because as they always say "There is no replacement for displacement." Not to mention the LSX block is really strong so it can handle alot of juice or boost.

i would love to have a healthy 454 cube lsx with something like either a tfs 245 head and an intake that would keep up or the ls7/etp ls7 setup. with the right combo it would be a monster . if 500-500 rw is all you are wanting a good 402-408 should get you there.maybe a set of tfs 225/235 or afr 225 heads with a stick in the 24x range 11:5 or so scr,8.5-8.7 dcr,90/90 and you should be set.

I like the Iron block 408 but I want to do something different. I am willing to spend in the 7-8 K range to get things working including an install so I think a LSX is in the budget. But I want something that I can expand on in the future as well, hence I think the LSX will work.

I agree with these guys, 408 iron, I went this way for the expense and ease of installation but its for a boost application too. If I went N/A I would do a 427 but don't cheap out on heads and intake though. My buddy jsut finished his 427 project and its a monster. By far his favorite combo so far, even more so than a 408 F1 and turbo. I disagree with this but everyone has their own opinion. Good luck picking, either will haul
