Cam causing tuning issues?

Default Cam causing tuning issues?

Ever since i have had my heads/cam swap(1 year ago this month) my car has always had tuning issues. I've had it tuned by 2 different people, and its a little better now, but it still has issues and bugs the hell outta me. Always has issues with idle, dying, and surging. Could the cam be part of the culprit? Its a custom grind Comp cam, specs are 232/234 .598 lift. Would a little smaller off the shelf cam be easier to fix these issues with?

Find a good tuner. I've got a 238/240 compcam custom grind and its smooth as glass to drive. Its all in the tune.

Also if you've had it tuned for peak output and not drivability you'll have your issues.

or you have a vacuum leak

Ya I think the deal is your tuner, a good tuner can make most any cams drive nice

That cam isn't big by today's standards. A good tune will go a long way to making it drivable providing there are no hardware issues (vacuum leak, bag plugs etc.)

Try to have it Speed Density tuned. That solved my surging ,stalling problems.

Definitly the tune. That cam should be a breeze to tune. Maybe there are problems elsewhere

I had it in SD tuning before, with my first tuner. It was even worse then. It did get a little better with my new tuner, but i still have minor issues every now and then.

ive done both maf and sd i dont see any difference both smooth idle and drives like stock

I have spent countless hours tuning mine for driveability. I'm sure it would have went faster if I knew more about what I was doing. But I think even the best tuners will need to spend quite a bit of time tuning on driveability with certain combinations. FWIW I have spent most of my time tuning it in SD closed loop. I had it pretty good but it still had some surging both on and off the throttle. I figured it was as good as I was going to get it for a while so I re-enabled the maf. When I did this it made a huge difference and most of the surging is now gone completely after driving it for a few days. Now I just need to get PE AFR right and I'll be set.
