then why is it that vinci sells the spring locator for the dual springs when they sell it as a kit. retainers, springs, and seat locators? these locators are alot thinner in the middle to locate the inner spring.

i would say because to get install heights closer, and that the locators are hell of alot stronger than stockers, and yes they also help locate inner spring better, and for the '03 and newer guys to get away from the integeral seat/seal combo and go back to '02 and earlier style.

sorry mrr23, you are right. there is a misconception in cranes catalog about this. the factory '98-02 ls1 locators will only locate the outer spring, not inner spring. u must use $144460-16 locators and gm seals to make there set up work correctly. sorry for inconvience everyone.

If you only have the springs in hand, and plan to replace your current stock setup (GM beehives), you need seats and retainers at a minimum. You should also replace the seals since they require removal to get the retainers in place. I would also pick up a set of shims so you can get the required seat pressure on the valve springs.

locks are opitional, but in most cases i would consider it. $25 for them is cheap insurance.
