Pennzoil Platinum oil analysis results

Had RP 10w30 in about 10 different cars, never had any problems in both NA and turbo/sc apps. Currently running 10w30 in a 98 ls1, lid exhaust t56 334 rwhp...somethings working right.

I've had great luck with pennzoil platinum, ran it in my mr2, used to run mobil one. I currently have mobil 1 in my z but only because it was on sale, come next oil change its gonna be pennz. Mobil just seems to run too thin for what it is.

i ran Royal Purple ONCE in my Supra and that is when the stock twins blew up. Needless to say, i never used their engine oil after that. I use Amsoil 5w30 in my Camaro.

Regular Castrol Syntec is a pretty good oil too, but it's definitely not at the same level as the German stuff or Pennzoil Platinum. It has shown some good oil analysis results in a lot of different cars.

It would probably work out well there too, but in a case like that I'd definitely recommend getting an oil analysis done to make sure you've chosen the right oil change interval.

I quit using Pennzoil years ago because I found a coat
of wax all over the inside of my SBC motor on rebuild.
I figured it was the paraffin base. Is the Platinum a
synthetic, non-paraffinic oil?
Patman, do you maintain a compendium of test results
and maybe a top-10 list based upon, anywhere?

I have never ran anything in my car but Mobil 1 and had good results with but I recently switched to the Pennzoil Platinum and it seems to have quiet down the motor (valves noisey) and freed up the motor a hair (reving) and I have always ran regular Pennzoil in all my cars and trucks for over 15yr now with GREAT RESULTS and I am Pleased with the Pennzoil Platinum and plan on sticking with it.

I ran nothing but Pennzoil for years in my van w/ SBC350.
It didn't use oil particularly. I lost a rocker stud and took
the time to do a freshen-up, when I got into the valley
I found 1/16"-1/8" of black "wax" coating everything.
I could scrape it off with my thumbnail, that kind of a
consistency. Van had a functional PCV system but no
other emissions controls on it, a '77 3/4 ton from Canada.
I had done a full rebuild when I bought it and the block
was hot-tank clean to start.
I had never, and haven't since seen that kind of thing.
I went to using "Texas" type oils after that and have not
had that kind of deposit. Dunno if it actually matters,
but it wasn't something I would have put on purpose.

I don't really keep a list like that, I just keep an eye on the oil analysis results that I see on www.bobistheoilguy.com to see how certain oils perform in different engines. Pennzoil Platinum consistently performs very well. Even the regular non synthetic Pennzoil has shown very good results for a lot of people too, I haven't heard of anyone finding any kind of waxy buildup inside their engines.
Platinum doesn't use a 100% synthetic base oil, they do use a group 3 hydrocracked base. However, it's Shell's XHVI base oil which is the best group 3 available, it's performance is right on par with pure synthetic base oils.

That was pretty common with the older non-synthetic oils in old SBCs. The new Pennzoil Platinum is totally different and on par if not better than M1 now...

I've always ran regular Penn. and I've never had the wax issue. Now, I've torn apart a few Valvoline motors and seen some NASTY stuff. Like for instance, a solid mold of wax when I pulled the valve covers off! Not just on one engine either, I've seen quite a lot of them. I wouldn't lube my bicycle chain with that stuff.
