Default 5.3vs. LS6 Heads

Posted this on another forum with no luck. Here goes.

Planned mods 98 T.A.:

Yank SS3600 stall
L6 Intake
LT's with catted Y (gotta pass visual inspection)
Hooker 3inch catback w/ aeroflow muffler
necessary oil pump/timing chain upgrades
Torquer V2 or V3 cam

I am getting conflicting advice on the heads. I had decided on PRC stage 2.5 heads because of the compression bump of the smaller chambers but a few buddies are saying I should go with the LS6 2.5 heads. Which heads will be better with my setup and why?? Thanks in advance!!

been looking for the same answer. I compared the lift vd flow numbers of the prc 2.5 5.3s versus the prc 2.5 ls6 heads and the mid lift numbers and top end flow numbers seem better on the 5.3s. I am going to be putting a very large cam in my car.. similar to a trex only a little more lift. I was wondering which head I should go with. With the particular cam I am looking at I could fit it under some stage 1 ls6 heads without flycutting but with either the 2.5 ls6 heads of the 2.5 5.3 heads I will have to flycut so thats a moot point.

I am looking for maximum top end power

may want to look into the intake runner volume.

the 5.3s are about 220, which is about as big as i would go with a stock cube motor. otherwise you'll lose so much low/mid range power.

i've seen some of the ls6 heads advertise a runner size in the 230s. while this would make for a killer dyno queen. on the street it is very likely to get beat by a car putting out less power.

something to muse over, maybe call up the tech lines at TR or Tbyrne

I asked John at TSP this same question earlier this week, and he recommended the 5.3 heads for a more street-type car.

I have the Trex and I am exploring my options with heads. Right now it looks like I am going with the PRC LS6 stage 1 heads. I have also been looking around a livernois LS6 stage 2 and I have looked into trickflow tea heads with those three choices I won't have to flycut and I should gain some power. Anybody else have input on big cam with non stock heads? Love to hear some more opinions!

ls6 head. The 5.3 is good for a compression bump without milling but I've seen the ls6 head up better numbers and results.

Ls6 Heads Seem To Be Leading The Dyno Wars With Same Cam And Intake Setups 420 With 90/90 Trv3 And 5.3 And 486 With The Ls6 Heads And Same Tuners? So I Am Just Gonna Go Off What I See!

... Bad Info At Its Best Here Guys!!!

Call Tsp I Dont Think Thaey Will Agree That There Is Any Real Difference In Top End Between The 2 Heads

That Being Said I Thought The Ls6 Head Produced A Little Better Midrange But I May Be Thinking Of The Eddlebrocks

from what i have noticed 5.3's seem to work really well with midsized cams while the ls6's seem to work a lil better with large cams. I really dont think there is much of a difference between the two however especially since there are people running 10's na with both of these types of heads. Also 5.3's tend to be a lil bit cheaper
