Default Blown Engine NEED HELP!!

need help and advice! I have a 98 z28 stock LS1 motor. One night out driving (driving fast) and did a burn out when a mile down the road it started knocking really bad so pulled over and check the oil had plenty of oil and good oil pressure but still continued to knock. Got it back home and removed the valve covers thinking bent pushrod would be a possible cause of the noise. No luck there.,.. so I removed the oil filter to find about 2 lbs of metal with it. Where do I go from here? Could it be as bad as I think? Do I buy a remanufactured engine? Have it rebuilt? Spun bearing possible? I live In Indiana if you know any machine shops that would do this type of work or any places i could find a rebuilt engine. Maybe buy a wrecked ls1 with good engine? All help and advice please!

Sounds like you spun a bearing.

i spun a bearing, but didnt have near the amount of metal in my oil filter as you say you had. also when my engine went... the oil pressure dropped and was only a faint knocking sound

You probably spun a bearing or two and destroyed something else. Do you have any metal in your intake?

sounds like a bearing...you probably broke something apart, maybe even pieces of the bearing(s) in question

where do you live? I know of a couple places up in NW indiana that do good work if you want to rebuild it and more in the suburbs, not real familiar with other areas though

I wouldn't waste my time rebuilding a 98 block. Time to buy a SB.

if your asking me... i got 118k miles on it...

Ryne at CMS just got finished upgrading my whole valvetrain (so that's new), put a 224 cam in it, new IM and TB + Tune, only to find out while on the dyno i had rod knock... so the engine is being pulled all apart again in order to upgrade to forged internals...

then right after that, my LT's and ORY will be going on, then another tune...

a few pics... :hijacked:
