My vote is for the cam being a tooth off also. I always double check myself by spinning the engine over a few times and have on a couple occasions found it to be off a tooth. All it costs is time(and a balancer bolt) to pull the front cover and double check the timing marks.

Honestly even 405-410 sounds high to me for MUSTANG dyno numbers and a 224 (even a TR224) cam. That would still put him up near the 440-450 mark on a dynojet dyno and I just have not seen those kind of number put up by anyone else with a TR224. Perhaps he just hit on the perfect combo, if so he should have left it alone.

Ditto that. My car made 360rwhp with the TR224 cam only on a Mustang dyno. That'd mean I'd have to gain 50rwhp from whatever heads he has.

As was explained to the owner, we did have the dyno recalibrated in between his sessions - we were getting complaints that we were padding numbers to look better than another local shop with the same Mustang dyno - this was not the case as they too initially had very high numbers with the calibration that was put in their dyno from the factory and they had it recalibrated. We had ours recalled as well, and the numbers did drop. INMY01TA can attest that now the dynos are very close as we made pulls on his car very shortly after making pulls on the other shops (just for those on here who may think there is still a difference). And the cal doesn't get changed for anyone - you want Dynojet numbers, go to a Dynojet...

However, that does not completely explain the power drop that this post is about... I can tell you for sure, that it is not in the tune - I definitely spent a good bit of time trying to be sure it was not. Final AFR ended up at 12.6 to 12.8 and the timing it liked best was 26 in the torque band to 27 in the power band. I talked to the owner about the setup because I would agree that it is down on power. You can feel it on the street as well. But since he did all his own work, and I had expended every effort I could in the tune, there wasn't much else I could do for him.

I will say one thing - I have tuned a couple cars with the torquer cam, and only one that I can remember made the power I expected. I don't know if it is the combination the car owners are putting together or what, but I have seen much better results out of other TSP cams for sure. And I am not bashing TSP by any means - we use their cams extensively - I have one in my own car!

LS1HIGHLIFE - if you do find anything such as pushrod length, cam timing, etc that may help exlpain the issue, let me know - I would be happy to get you back on the dyno and help you find out if it makes a difference (don't worry about charges). I know you are disappointed and will do what I can to help you if you find anything amiss...
Thanks Bret! I'm a little bit presse8 for time with work and it being the holiday season ie no money. I'll get around to checking the push rod length and I'll pull the front cover off also to check the dot alignment. I'm definitely getting my cut-out put back on also. I'm selling my intake also so I can get that LS6. I'll get in touch with you when I find out just what is wrong. Thanks again!!!!

No problem man! And like I said, don't worry about money for the dyno - I'll take care of that - won't take much time. Give me a call when you find something and you're ready - we'll get you in!

Thanks for the props guys - I really do my best for each and every car I touch and take pride in what I do. And I've also been down on my luck more times than I care to count and know that feeling... I'll always do what I can to help!

I really hate dyno's. How does the car feel, any track times before? Any track times now.
I put down 355rwhp on a particular Mustang Dyno, cars i race on the street put down 420rwhp on a dyno jet, and we can't pull from each other. I have a TSP233/239 cam, and out of the box 243 heads. My car runs great, there's nothing wrong with it, but a dyno told me it made 355/332. To give you an idea a stock ss put down 260 on this Dyno. If the car feels stronger, or just as good, it's probably fine. I would probably try to find a different dyno to throw it on...

And sorry, I didn't read the whole thread, not going to lie. Sorry if i covered stuff that was already figured out.

Also just read that it feels down on power, sorry for not reading lol

Looks like it would need to be redlined at >7k rpm to make use of the power. Do these cams usually require spinning the motor that high? If not, I'm going to jump of the 'one tooth off' bandwagon.

I won't be able to check the gear alignment this weekend but I should be able to check te push rod length and compression. I know that each cylinder should be within 5% of each other but what PSI should I expect to see on a motor with 79k mi?

Nah, hp curve should dip around 6500 rpm, not keep going up like that above. I've got mine pretty well set up where it plateu's at 63-6500+
