Actually after looking at that dyno graph closer I would have to agree with you. I guess I never really paid that close of attention to the graph. I dont remember how many teeth the cam gear has, but I think I figured before that one tooth off was about 8 degrees or so.

Depends on your DCR.

I checked my compression PSI today which was a bitch BTW on the passenger side. Everything came out +/- 5% of each other except for number one piston. My numbers were as follows:

Piston PSI
1 178
2 190
3 180
4 190
5 186
6 185
7 201
8 185

I have a micrometer coming in to check the pushrods next weekend and I also need to pull the timing cover off as well. What do you guys think about these reading I got today?

20 bux says if you pull your valve cover you will find a nasty surprise, do a search for broken 918 springs and i think it will make you sick
I didnt say i recomended them....lol...just that they do work...my buddy has been running them for a long while now with his Torquer 2 and has added spray on top of that.....no broken springs....thats not to say it wont happen tho.

"CORRECTION- I have stock ported 853 casting heads"

Alright so I pulled off the front cover today and found that my gear alignment was spot on. So I called Jason up at FBC and asked what else could I check that may be giving me issues. He said that if I degreed my cam that I may have found it to be off a few degrees so I may need to adjust the gears. I don't have a way to do this, nor do I know how really. I tried to check my push rod length with a length checker but that didn't work. So I tried Jason's way by opening the intake valve all the way up and finger tightning the rocker until it was snug. I got about 1 turn on the bolt before I go to 22ftlbs.

Does this mean I have too long of push rods or what? Or, are my lifters going out? My engine sounds horrible....Or are the valve size in my heads just not good enough for this cam?

Damn, I thought sure it was off a tooth the way it is acting. You sure the bottom sprocket is on the right keyway (if it is the kind with more than one)? Would be best if you could degree it to check it, but I understand if you don't have the stuff or know how.

I'm not sure what they say for preload on the lifters... might wanna call J back and ask him how many turns... I thought it should be more than one, but don't remember what they use...

I'm at a loss now man... if it were mine, and I couldn't degree it, I would probably go ahead and advance it 2 degrees while the front cover is off and dyno it again to see if the torque picks up. It wouldn't cost you anything but time and would at least tell you if you were on the right track. Don't know what else could be up given all the other variables you checked/didn't change...

compression looks good from that test, I'm guessing you just used a compression tester. What about a leakdown test?
here is a good link for general use

DCR = dynamic compression ratio. Which is your static compression ratio minus compression that bleeds off from valve events due to your cam. The higher the number the higher your compression readings will be.

Yeah it's a SLP double roller adjustable one with different key-ways to adjust timing.

I'll have to give Jason a call after the Christmas/new years thing and get more info. I found an LS6 intake manifold to get rid of the aluminum one. Now I just need to try some other trouble shooting when I get time.

Thanks Guys.

I've only heard good things about that cam so I think once everything is sorted out you'll be happy. Friend of mine with ported 243's and that cam with all boltons (no fast) did 450/420! I almost want to lose my TR230/236 for one but I'll wait until I see what I can get out of it.

Good luck man, TSP is a good bunch, i'm sure they'll help you figure it all out.

I am not sure how the SLP is marked, but most of the multiple keyway crank gears I have used in the past will have 2 set of identical marks, one marks which keyway to use, the other is the one used to align with the cam gear. If you line up with the wrong mark, your cam timing will be way off. Do not relly think that is the issue here, as it still seems to run ok, but just food for thought.

Make double sure you used the correct indexing marks on the adjustable gears on the initial installation!!!

Yeah I made DAMN sure the gears were aligned corectly by having three people take a look at it.

Update: I went with an LS6 intake manifold and got my cut-out put back in. After speaking with John from Khaotic Kreations and getting some info from "Patric G" and info from Cam motion, even if I advanced the timing on the cam 4 degrees I will not much of a power increase. The only way I will see an increase to put me back/over my old 224 numbers would be to go with bigger valved heads that flow much better than these 853 castings. Thats about all I've been able to come up with on the power drop issue, A miss-match of heads/cam....................

Default Update!

I got my PRC 2.5 5.3ltr heads in!!!!!! I hope that by upping my compression my car will perform the way she should with this cam. Maybe next weekend when I have some time I'll install them.

I'll be sure to give you a call when there done Bret!

Default Got er tuned and running GREAT!

Big thanks to Eric"subhumanzz" for helping me out with the install and dealing with the long hours. It was fun!

And another big thanks to Bret Shook "BLK02WS6" at FBC for working with me on getting my car where it needed to be. I appreciate your help and if I had more green this evening it would have been yours. Best wishes to you and your family. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with.

The little ole lady threw down 433/383 uncorrected and 426/376 corrected. I'm happy!!!!!
