Default Milling Ls6 head questions for TR230

I've decided to keep my TR230 for at least another summer. I was going to go with a custom cam, but I think I will wait for a 408 build. The TR230 is so great, I wanna put some heads on it.

I have been reading about milling and compression, and I was wondering how far can I go with milling and gaskets without flycutting. I have read somewhere that I could run a 59cc chamber with the TR230 and not worry about flycutting putting compression at 11.0 or so. Don't remember what gasket though.

I think I will go with some stage 1 LS6 heads from Livernois. I need some advice because I can't afford to buy the heads, then check, then send them back if I have too.

Thanks

Bump for you....I've been wondering the same thing. I want to get some heads for my TR230 but want to know what heads are the best choice for this cam and how much to mill them if any.

Thanks for the bump. I know what head I want, I just want to know how much I can mill them and how thin a gasket I can use.

Thanks Mark. I think milling the heads at .020 with stock gaskets is the better option. Do you know what kind of compression this would give me?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but would it make since to keep the GM gaskets as the are cheap and proven? Since I have to pay for milling anyway, might as well get them milled at .020 and use the GM gasket. I don't plan to change the cam or heads on my 346 while I own it.

Is it true that if I went with milling .20, that would hurt the flow rate compared to milling only .10?

No much if any, usualy milling over .030 starts hurting flow.

Thanks. What about valve size? I noticed Livernois offers there stage 2 Ls6 with a stock valve and PRC 2.5 Ls6s have a 2.02 with a 2.04 option. I suppose flycutting comes into question if I milled .010 and had a .40 gasket. Not worth the extra 10 at most cfm (Stock valve to a 2.04)and might having to flycutt.

The difference between 2.00 and 2.02 might be ~ 5>10 cfm.
I'm not an advocate of having 2.04 valves on a 2.02 stock seat. That defeats the purpose of having a bigger valve, 2.04 requires aftermarket seats to function to full potential.
