Default yella on stock engine

friend is getting rid of his 1.8 yella terra's for $300 bc he has to get 1.7 for his new cam. is it worth me installing this a my car that has 130,000 miles and only has lt headers, intake and tune. not going to have cam or heads. if i do go with this what should i expect. also should i buy anything else? am i going to need new shims? i really know nothing about this if you can fill me in. thanks ahead of time.

They'll bump your stock cam lift ~.030 to ~.525, which means you'll need a new set of springs too. So, plan another $75 for LS6 springs. Horsepower gains will probably be in the range of 10~15 at the tire. And, you may need to revisit your tuner - especially if he had you dialed in at a 13.0:1 AFR because it'll most likely lean you out up top a bit.

If they are not the new style, i think I would pass. You can get the new revised versions for about $385.00.

I found to get proper wipe they required some shimming, which in turn required longer pushrods, so add that to the cost as well. For that price, I don't think its worth the investment on a 130K motor. Its not exactly a screaming deal.

To determine if you need shims, you need to do a wipe test. My bet is that you need shims to correct the wipe, it will be too close to the intake side of the valve stem. Not a big deal, but be aware of it. Correct geometry will be critical with the higher ratio.

z06 push rods may be too long as the z06 cam had a smaller base circle.

I am happy w/ my 1.8's, and the tuner couldn't get anything else out of it, my stock computer compensated for this just fine. The a/f was a little lean, 12.9, thats not enough for me to loose sleep.

good luck
