Default How do I drop the oil pan??

I am changing the oil pump and need to lower the pan not remove it. I am using the install guide on ls1howto.com but the pan seems stuck on there. I removed the 12 bolts...the 13th one isnt on mine I'm guessing because it's a 98. I even went to the dealer and got a schematic to see where all the bolts are. What is the easiest way to pop the pan off without messing anything up??

if you have an auto, sometimes the pan can get hung up on the transmission lines. Mine did when the motor was still out of the car, so that could be something to look for.

Did you get the 2 long skinny bolts at the back of the pan? Did you get the two thicker bolts that go from the bell housing into the back of the pan?

the oil pan is very sturdy. maybe just try using a flat screwdriver and slightly tap it in between the oil pan and the gasket/block and try not to hurt the gasket. when it breaks loose it will probably drop right down.

I have seen this a few times. I wish someone at LS1howto would update the guide to include that step. Those oil pans ain't cheap, and prying down on it with 2 bolts still attached is asking for a disaster.

If ALL the bolts are out try a rubber mallet in the corners.
