Default Heads and Cam HELP!!!!

Hello all. I am new to the site and looking for a little help.

First off I have a 1999 Z28 with the 6-speed. Stock gears and clutch. Currently the car has a LS6 intake and ram air kit. I have an SLP loudmouth cat back.

I am looking to get a little more power. After a lot of research I think my best combination would be to go with Texas-speed.

I am planning on keeping the LS6 intake and adding the 5.3 stage 2.5 heads with 2.04 intake and 1.57 exhaust valves. The cam is a Texas Speed Torquer v.3 cam.

I will be installing a set or long tubes with the y pipe and getting ride of the cats.

The clutch will be replaced with the RAM Powergrip HD. Along with the Z06 slave and master cylinder.

I am wondering what you all think about this combination?

I am using this as a second car and have a daily driver. I do not want to make it to crazy that it can not be taken on short trips. Derivability is important. I want it to run good but am not looking to make this a race car either, I have one of those all ready. I just want to keep up with traffic. ha ha ha . I am looking for about 450 at the wheels.

Please let me know what you would change and why. I appreciate all your comments.

Well 450 at the wheels is a pretty ideal case scenario but i definitely think it's possible. Unfortunately, i think you're pushing it asking for that power w/o a FAST intake but i've been wrong before and i've seen people put just under 450 w/ LS6 so don't count my word for truth.

The combo itself looks great. CNC heads from TSP are nothing but top quality and the people on this forum are living proof to their claim of excellence. You should be straight for a good 410-440 HP w/ that package.

looking on the site the 2.5 5.3L heads don't come with those valves... 2.02/1.575 what heads were you looking at, the 6.0L heads?

SweeTBone has nearly the SAME exact setup. With a Vengance ported 90/90 he did 445rwhp. I don't know if I see 450 happening without a FAST. Get the DCR calculator to find out where you stand too. Good luck.

450 will be pushing it lastcall is right, but its possible.

with stock head gaskets you'll have a DCR/SCR of 8.0/10.6

go to 0.040 thickness head gaskets and it bumps you to 8.3/10.9 with stock combustion chambers.

Mill the heads to 59cc and your DCR/SCR goes to 8.6/11.3....

I was going to go with Stock head gaskets.

I was also considering another cam the Magic Stick 3.

With the stock Gasket it should be around 10.75 to 1

I looked up the heads by them selves and it says 2.02 valves but under the heads and cam kit it says 2.04. Not sure what ones it comes with.

I am 95% sure I am getting TSP Duals and break that 450 RWHP barrier. As stated earlier, with a LS6 intake with the H/C I think 420 AT BEST for RWHP. But there are just too many variables. I tried not to get stuck on a #, cause when I got back from the dyno I was kind of expecting a little more. But comparing others with a similar setup I'm pretty much there.

To the OP, that H/C combo is driveable to say the least. I drove it almost 200 miles down to my tuner on a mail order tune, had it fully dyno tuned and drove the 200 miles back after throwing down 445 RWHP on the dyno and filling the shop with the aroma of stinky factory clutch. My setup is using GM MLS gaskets and the Stage 2.5 Heads right out of the box.

Sounds good. That might answer the question on exhaust setup with H/C/I in a True Duals vs Y-pipe setup.
