As was mentioned already if you look at the pictures of the heads one has the passages open while the other is blocked off by the pieces of gasket material that should have been knocked out after the gasket was perforated. This should have been caught when the head was installed.

That tire valve tool would never make it in through the intake valve though would it?? I would think the intake valve would have taken a beating while it was trying to get through.

I would definetly check to make sure all the little inserts are in their places. Other than that...no clue. I really want to know what it was now though!!!

I would think whatever it was, it would still be in your exhaust somewhere.

I hate to say it but the head of some nails have that design on them. That would explain the round blob. Once it got hot enough and beat to hell the design would have surely disappeared. Those nails aren't exactly strong metal. Might not even been a whole nail.

Not all Schrader valve tools are the huge ones. When you put your Schrader valve back in after you removed your nitrous, where is your tool?

I retract my previous post about the nail unless the OP has his schrader tool.

Whatever it was, it's now that small blob of metal on the piston. Between the beatings, the heat and burnup, the combined heat melted it then solidified IMO. I would see if you can tell if it's aluminum, tin or something. Try and scrape it off without killing the piston if even possible.

I have the schrader valve tool still and it's a bigger tool like what the other guy posted. Not sure how a nail would've gotten in there. The exhaust system is the next thing i'm going to check the only thing is that I have no cats and if it's in the muffler there is no way to get it out with out cutting it up. well whatever it is it's magnetic so it's not aluminum, I'm going to have to pull the motor anyway so i'll look into trying to get it out then. Looking at it I really don't wanna just replace the piston cause if I can't figure out what the hell this thing is I don't want it happening again with the new motor after the rebuild. So I was looking at TSP either a forged 370 or a forged 347. Do you guys think this ruined the cam? also on a 370 could you use 5.3 heads, I;m just not sure about the bore size issues between the block and the heads.
Oh and i'm now taking sponosors for a dad with a street driven race car. lol

What kind of air filter do you use and is it still in one piece?

the car has never run hot and the motor has never had the heads off before this, hell the car has only 42k on the clock been sprayed 3 times on a 100 shot

That thing looks like the head of a roofing nail for holding down tar paper, but how in the hell would something like that get in there?

Hmmm, well it's definitely iron based then if it's magnetized. So either you somehow had a magnet fall in there, maybe fell of one of the tools you were using and it finally just blew in, or a piece of steel or some degree entered and with the impacts it got polarized and magnetized itself. **** deal either way. Plus, thinking now, whatever it was, definitely harder than aluminum to punch a texture like that into the head. I would go for nickel plated or pure steel...?

I think he means ferrous metal and not actually itself magnetized, but iron based and therfore influenced by magnetic feilds.

You can use your 5.3 heads on a 370. I'm guessing you're going to have to mill them quite a bit though so let who ever you order your short block from know that.

Why would the heads need to be milled a lot...
