Default GM Oil pans now have diff size oil filter adapter?

Just got a new GM replacement oil pan from the dealer. Turns out the oil filter adapter installed in it is larger than the one used by the car. Or maybe they screwed up on this pan in particular. The invoice states the correct year/model but the adapter installed is the wrong size. WTF??

The other difference I noticed is that there is no provision for the pressure relief valve. The hole where it would normally go is now a blind hole. Goes nowhere...and, of course, no valve installed.

hmmm...I'm gonna try to change the adapter to one from the original pan. I'd hate to not be able to use the 4 K&N's I have sitting on my shelf.

This happen to anyone out there?

The new filter is a PF-48. I would use that vs. changing the adapter. All the new pans come with that fitting unless you find a pan thats been sitting on the shelf.

And what about the missing press relief valve. Is it just deleted in the newer pans?

Thats an oil filter bypass valve, which means if the oil filter gets too restricted, oil will bypass the filter (unfiltered) so as to not starve the engine of oil. I'd rather not have one myself and have plugged off quite a few in other engines, but I believe the new oil filter may have it built in, it does appear to have some sort of spring-loaded valve inside it.

Yeah all the new pans are like that. And the new filter number does have the built in valve.

Just took a quick look and it doesn't look like K&N makes one with the valve in it. So we're stuch with the AC Delco one.
