Default Double or single springs? Proper Cam?

I am planning a cam swap. I will be going with 224/224-.581/.581. I drive my car about 6 K a year and it will not see the strip. I will rarely run it up past 6K rpm. I do not have or plan on adding heads. I will run more of a road course format. I am on a budget but I do not want to cut corners to save a buck. Overkill is not the answer as well. Also a suggestion on springs would be appreciated. I am shooting for about 390-400 rwhp with strong low and midrange punch. Thanks

that cam may not get you to the goal you listed. close...but not quite.

typically it takes some heads to get the 224 cam to 400rwhp.

the revised comp cams 918s should be fine for your setup

Yeah, 918s shoudl be ok, but i still like the added safety of a dual kit. I agree with the above statement. IMO, you need go get into the ~230 range to safely hit 400 rwhp cam only. It can be done with less, but its no guarantee.

918's should be fine. Since your on a budget, look into the Scoggin Dickey drop in springs that are about $120. They may have enough pressure for your cam, i cant remember what the specs are exactly.

I agree pick up the SDPC spring at $122. They are made by PAC and you can't beat the price for a quality spring.

For beehives, PAC 1218's or for much longer service PAC 1518's. Also, PSI makes the 1511 ML, which is a good spring.

So it sounds like most are in agreement that I can do a single spring without any fears. I have read alot about the 918's breaking and comp having an issue with them. How do you know if you are getting the latest and greatest? It also sounds doubtful to pull 390-400 with this cam package. I felt with the LT's, S3tb, lid and no catts and a good tune it might happen. Oh well as long as it is very driveable and performs well I'm on board.Any other suggestions are welcomed

After all the issues they have had I wounldn't touch 918's with a ten foot pole.

I like the added strength of duals....
