Question Opinion on mild XFI cam and DCR

Hi guys,

I plan to swap heads and cam soon and need a last opinion regarding my combo.
This is my plan.
Stock bore LS1
ported LS6 heads
Cometic .040 headgaskets
ported oil pump
LS6 intake manifold
ported TB
cam: 214/218 @.050 (.600/.605) LSA 112 straight up (XFI intake lobes)
PAC-1518 valve springs
SCR: 11.02
DCR: 8.6
Overlap @ .050: -8 deg
EFIlive tuning

Are my numbers correct?

I'm a little concerned about the high DCR. I specifically look for a low rpm/high torque cam since I spent 90% of my driving below 2000rpm. I'm not looking for high dyno numbers, but for area under the curve. (I'm not a big fan of high duration/high LSA cams)

I do have a vararam cold air intake that should help with the high DCR, but is this still driveable even when I must use bad gas (below 93 oct.)?

The car will still have stock exhaust manifolds for now, but I plan on changing to headers in the future.
I haven't ordered the cam yet, so please advise if you see any major flaws with my choice.
Has anyone experience with the pushrod length that is required for this cam?

Alex

The LS1 does not need a lot of timing to make good power. I am running 8.8 dcr but have 93 octane. Getting timing dialed in took some time but it runs great.

why is everyone so concerned with DCR?

we've run quite a few combinations that happened to be around 8.6 DCR with good results.

This is my first LSx engine I modify.
My experiences with SBCs were that they started to knock already below 8.0 DCR.
That is why I better ask twice before making expensive mistakes.

Any changes you would make to my combo?
It going into a daily driven C5 Corvette.

That is fine on 91 octane, run 1 step colder plugs with a tighter gap.

How long in the future before you order headers? If they are a long ways down the road, rather than just a couple months, then I would use a cam with much more exhaust duration. Assuming you want to target the same overlap and IVC, I'd suggest a 214/226 114 +2. This will still work fine with headers too.

Because that is the compression to worry about regarding octane use, Maybe you meant something else by this question? (Beside sarcasm)

To me, it seams people want 8.5:1 DCR but if its 8.6:1, theirs a problem.

I checked stock block DCR of a LS2 and found 8.8X:1 , correct me if i'm wrong?

I see what you meant, no you are correct but there is a limit we should try to understand that, it is affected by grade of fuel, altitude, humidity, heat etc...
accepted safe limits 8.5>8.7 on 91 octane, 8.7> 8.9 on 93/94
I run 8.8x DCR on 12:1 compression, 1 step colder plugs, .040 quench, 93 octane and shoot nitrous (100) with no issues (24>27* timing depending on rpm)
