Default Melling LS1 oil pump?

How is this pump? i am rebuilding my LS1 with forged parts and diamond blower pistons over the winter and was thinking on installing a new SLP GM ported pump, but now i see a Melling high performance pump is avaible,

How much more oil pressure will i pick up with the Melling? and is it ok for every day street use,
Is the Melling built better and flow better inside , and dont have all that casting flash that you have to grind down and polish like with the stock units.
please let me know
thank you for your help

Melling 10296 is the best replacement oil pump for an Ls1, it fits best with a single row timing chain

SLP, is very similar to the above pump but fits best with a double row timing chain

hope this helps

MEL10296 Melling Performance LS1/LS2 Oil Pump is the high pressure/volume oil pump.

I installed it with my hotcam install and love it. At idle you'll see (red spring)50+hot oil pressure(idle) blue spring=40hot oil pressure(idle)

at wot you'll 75 easy!

I have been using it all summer since the install during hot and humid weather, in traffic and at the track twice, and my pressure has never been so consistent!

I love it at start up you know you'll get pressure right away

I got mine at Speedinc too, call Frazier he'll help ya

fraser- i dont understand what u are trying to say here-

i have both 295-296 new-unused as i have not done my engine yet-

i got them cheap-so i will use the 296-

does that mean i can only use a single row timming chain on the 296 and 295?

also is the 295 better then the factory ones or is it just a replacement aftermarket pump?

thanks in advance-

melling #10296 hands down the best oil pump for the LS1 family right now. I would recommend installing the blue spring that comes with it though.
Idle oil pressure hot w/blue spring=40psi+ and WOT=70psi+
idle oil pressure hot w/red spring=50psi+ and WOT=75-80psi+ easy.

no need to port it, the oil pump casting is very good and no mods needed. just change relief spring and go. oil pump is very tight with double row timing chain sets like frasier said, so modification to oil pump housing would be needed in some cases.

I have the melling, on a 113k mile motor I see 40+ psi at warm idle, and at WOT hit ~75psi. I love this thing and SpeedInc usually has sales on it (that's when I got mine).

so the 296 and 295 both need mods to make the double row chain clear safely? or just the 296-

what do i actually got to modify?

also is the 295 better then factory- or just the same as i want to sell it to a mate--

thanks for the help-
kind regards-

The SLP is a melling pump, (10295?) however it has gone though machine work to clearance it for a double row chain.

my old motor had one of the early mellings, and it was real tight. had to clearance the front cover and the pump itself to get it to clear with a DR timing set. i went back with a ported ls6 on my 408... had trash go through the melling when the old motor let go

Red, it was very easy to swap. Hex head socket and you're done.

It comes with two o-rings too, it tells you explicitly in the instructions which one to use. I forget what colors they are, but you can't fail if you just read instructions.

I talked to someone at SDPC and they told me that the 10295 was a high pressure and the 10296 was the high volume version. Im getting ready to puchase one and am leaning more towards the 10295.

Mine works great! Havent paid any attention at WOT, but I know that the car has 94k, and since my cam install I hold right around 60 psi at all times..

i thought the 296 had high volume and high psi thats why it comes with 2 o-rings to change the psi setting-

yup. but the 2 o-rings are for the 2 different style of pick up tubes. usually the black one is the one you use.

Default Melling Oil pumps

Melling Oil Pumps

#10295= High Pressure Model / Standard Volume
#10296= High Pressure Model / High Volume 18% increase in flow

Note: all pumps come with RED relief spring installed in them.

Relief Springs: RED will get you 50psi+ hot oil pressure at idle.
BLUE will get you 40psi+ hot oil pressure at idle.
(pressures will differ from engine to engine depending on engines characteristics and clearances)

hope this helps guys.

thanks, joe
