Default ls1 removel

I AM GETTING READY TO REPLACE MY MOTOR. I WILL BE TAKING IT OUT FROM THE TOP. WHAT WOULD BE THE EAZYEST WAY TO REMOVE THE ENGINE? WITH OR WITHOUT THE TRANNY? ANY TIPS TO MAKE THIS EAZYER WOULD BE GREAT. THANKS DAVID.

it'd make life easier if you take it out without the tranny, especially if you're working in a tight area, only add time for removal of tranny!,

I think it's easier with it attached. You just have to get the hoist at the right angle and it all comes out.

same here, i removed the heads/intake, and then i took out the shortblock/trans together with the hood still on. was a little process, but after i got the heads/intake removed, probably took 30 minutes to get it out and squared away.

To get the bellhousing bolts out, just remove the tranny, and let the engine lean back as far as it will and ues ALOT of extensions and a swivel

ive done it 4 times on my car, remove heads and intake, headres, then you can see and remove all the top tranny bolts, i didnt realize this til the last time tho. when the motor is ready to pull, and only then, unbolt the motor mounts from the motor AND the KMember, as soon as you move the engine they will drop out of the way...the 3rd/4th time i left most of the accy. on the front but the Crank pully MUST come off.

The block will come out with the heads on it. The crank pulley needs to come off. If you pull the hood off you might be able to get the trans out. Otherwise, just spend the 15 minutes and pull off the trans first. 3' of extension and a swivel and you can reach the upper bolt. Even easier if you save the trans for last and drop the motor mounts while holding it with a hoist and jack. Pretty easy.

yes the block will come out with the heads on but its really easy to get the top 3 tranny bolts without them,
no the radiator was taken out but its easier to get out with out it, i guess it wouldnt matter..

I pulled mine from the top w/ the tranny attached! Heads and ASP pulley stayed on and it cleared just fine. I did pull all of the accessories off though. Hell of alot easier to pull the heads off when the motor is out of the car IMHO.
