Sdpc rollmaster double users with ASP pully!!?

Re: Sdpc rollmaster double users with ASP pully!!?
This has been debated over and over. There have been a few that DID not modify the pulley and it fit fine. Then there have been some that say there was no way it would fit without modifying the snout. I think most of them had problems with the SLP double roller chains, but I would modify it just in case no matter which double roller chain you use!
Here is a short writeup of what needs to be doneI hope this helps)
In preparation for the install of Roll Master's dual roller timing set, I modified my ASP UD pulley to compensate for the oil pump spacers included with the Roll Master set. The spacers measure approximately .115" thick, moving the pump foward a like distance. This will create interference with the pulley which must be turned down an appropriate distance.
In the picture below, the dimension marked A was increased from .187" to .387" and the original 45 deg. chamfer was then added. This should ensure adequate clearance between the oil pump and pulley.

not being an *** just didn't make sense thought I 'd ask.

I don't think you understand what needs to be modified.
DO NOT mill off the end of the snout! You must have a machine shop put the pulley in a lathe and INCREASE the dimension from .187" TO .387".
Maybe this will help:
-Stock ASP pulley shape-
-----------\___
|
|
|
|_______/----
The point where the ASP pulley gets wider for the seal is where you need to machine. Make it look like this
------\_____
|
|
|
_____/-------
Just move the point that it bottle necks down close to the pulley so the oil pump has the additional 3mm it needs.
Does this help?

my bad.... guess I should have read the reply with a bit more attention...

No problem, bud! I'm glad I was able to help. Maybe this post will help others that are confused as to what needs to be modified on the ASP pulley.

I'm one of the ones who didn't modify the pulley. Mine was/is completely fine without the modification. I don't have any belt problems or anything.

Re: Sdpc rollmaster double users with ASP pully!!?
I got mine machined before even trying it... fits great, no oil leaks and only cost like 30 bux...
So i'm not sure if it's required or not... but I got mine done and there were no negative side affects of doing so

Re: Sdpc rollmaster double users with ASP pully!!?
The above pulley pic is the one I took and added the "A" dimension to. I did this to the UD pulleys on my and my buddy's C5. It apparently is not required on the f-bodies. It is, however, required on the C5 to clear the oil pump when it's spaced foward with the spacers on the Rollmaster dual roller timing chain setup.
The spacers measure 3mm in thickness so the pulley shoulder must be moved foward (in relation to the nose of the crank) to clear the oil pump which is spaced 3mm foward by the spacers.
I had .125" (.007" beyond 3mm) machined off the pulley to make sure it cleared the pump and still engaged the timing cover oil seal. Be sure to indicate off the surface to be machined - not the OD of the pulley - to maintain balance/concentricity.

Re: Sdpc rollmaster double users with ASP pully!!?
Mine wouldn't fit with the ASP pulley and a rollmaster either on my F-body (is the LS1 in a C5 different than an LS1 in a F-bod?). I put my pulley on first with out the timing chain cover, and sure enough, the pulley went right up against the oil pump.
My buddy didn't even know his was hitting till he went to do another cam swap and found the oil pump had ground a groove in his pulley. I would do the mod to be on the safe side IMO. BTW, the MTI pulley is an ASP pulley...

Re: Sdpc rollmaster double users with ASP pully!!?
When I put my stock pulley on with the Rollmaster I was able to freely move the crank by hand (pushrods were out). I would think there would be some resistance if the pulley was hitting the oil pump, especially with all that pressure on the bolt. If the issue is just the snout hitting the gear then here would be no problem as the gear is turning with the pulley, so I am assuming that the problem is the outside of the pulley hitting the case of the oil pump.

I ordered the MTI (ASP) pulley and have an SLP double chain...Am I to assume that I'll have a clearance problem? Should I advise the installer ahead of time?
