car wont start
i just swapped my heads and my cam after blowing a head gasket. i turned the car on and drove it for a few days with no problems. went out the other morning to start it up and it wont start. it tries to turn over but cant. its not tuned yet and im wondering if because it is so cold right now it cant start without the tune. driving me nuts cause it ran fine for like a week and now nothing.

239/242 .649/.610 111lsa. its started and ran fine all week long so i dont think its the cam. im starting to think maybe since its not tuned yet it just wount start when its cold out. not sure though. if its not the tune then i dont know what happened. i can smell gas when im trying to turn it over so its obviously getting gas. i assume its getting spark but i didnt really check yet cause i dont have a garage and its cold outside.

Ok, I will tell you what I would try. I would open the throttle adjustment. It is a small screw on the throttle body. Go 3 or 4 turns. Disconnect the throttle position sensor. Turn the key to on ( not start ) and then off and plug in the sensor connector. Your motor starts in open loop and it might be to rich without a tune. If you can park the car for a couple days, pull the PCM and overnight it to a tuner. That is a way big cam and you definitely need it tuned

so my car is probably running to rich right now to start when its real cold out? i ordered hp tuners last week and it should be here on wednesday. i never messed with the idle screw cause i figured i would just fix the idle when i tune the car. maybe im running to rich right now and fowled up the plugs? it wasnt misfiring like i had fowled plugs though. ill mess with it a little and see what i can do with it.

I am thinking it is rich on cold start. The PCM is in open loop during this period. Did you pull a couple plugs and see if they are wet? You can also do the same thing I described by holding the throttle open more with your foot while trying to start it. The problems that come up running a motor out of spec over time are many. O2 sensors can be destroyed, plug fouled, etc.

when i try to start it ive been giving it gas. all week long ive had to give it a little gas to start it. it wont hold an idle ive had to keep my foot on the gas and the brake when i stop when ive been driving it around. thats why i ordered tuning software so i can fix the problem. ill try pulling some plugs to see if they are fowled. its raining and i dont have a garage so i might not get to it today. i just changed my o2 sensors like 4k miles ago so i hope they didnt get messed up.
