Ls1’s are very noisy to begin with it could be normal, but best thing to do is find someone In your area with a ls1 and compare the sounds.

Well both of mine have a slight ticking noise, but I dont know about a knock or ping. Does the engine stumble or hesitate when this is going on? Is this only when the engine is coming to temp or does this happen regardless of engine temp?

Does this happen at startup? And does it go away after it warms up?

Im guessing PISTON SLAP. its a known issue with the LS1. not going to hurt a darn thing its just there. Me and 2 my buddies found that when we switched to castrol syntech the noice went away. I no longer hear the slap that it had when i bought the car and i havent touched a thing. It may not have to do with oil at all but i think differently. Look up Piston Slap and you will find alot on it. Dont worry about it though if you say its at cold and low and then goes away.
