I currently have an 03' z06 cam and springs in my 01' LS1. Can I just take a set of heads off a 5.3 ltr truck and bolt them right on? Would I see any gains with just bolting up a set of 5.3 ltr heads with no porting? How would this affect my compression, and would it be a good setup for nitrous applications? Also, I hear that porting LS1 heads is a big pain in the ***. Does the same hold true for the 5.3 ltr heads? Thanks guys, I look forward to reading your responses!

Not worth swapping unless they are ported. It is essentially the same as a 5.7 head, so I would think it would be just as fun to port. Leave the porting to someone who is experienced and knows exactly what they are doing.

If they flow the same but have more compression I would think a little power might be obtained. Question is "How much compression is gained by going to 5.3's".

They have smaller intake valves then your 5.7 heads. Get them ported with a good set of 2.02" stainless high flow intake valves.
The exhaust valves are the same size as your stock 5.7L (1.55")

What has been stated so far is true. I will add that the 5.3's take more porting than the 5.7's to get them to their true potential. Stick with what you have until your ready to get some ported heads to replace yours now.
