I heard that whenever I was 22 and got my first new car. Now I'm 39. Also, I have always been told to not switch to synthetic on a high mileage (>100K) car. Synthetic is thinner and old cars are more prone to leak.

i was told by someone once that the when synthetic first came available, there was some concerns over the compatibility between them with conventional.

i'm sure it was something more of a guidline at first...but has long since been corrected.

if it were true...don't you think there would be a warning on the labels? can you imagine the legal backlash that would come from mixing the two if it were indeed a problem?

if you could sue for having too hot of a coffee, you could sue for a new engine cause the oil was not compatible.

It's as bad as "Don't use synthetic to break in an engine"

I wouldn't switch TO syn on a high mileage engine. I will leak through the old gaskets.

man only if everyone knew what lube techs did at dealerships lol. the past two dealerships i've worked at the dumbasses mix and match synthetic and conventional 1) becaue they usually forget 2) so they can change their oil for free by stealing the customers oil or 3) they just feel like being dipshits.

really i dont think it makes a difference, ive never had any problems when i've had to change my oil and been low on cash and had to use conventional. you should be fine
