If it is not failed, you may need to do a crank relearn on the computer.

Good luck man. You've come so close, don't give up now! If you take it to a shop, you will be paying them to test out the same things you have already tested anyways! Hang in there buddy.

Your cam is a tooth off, it just doesn't sound right when it's cranking over. Like it's not building enough compression. Did you put the cam in and timing chain set on or someone else?

Are you getting fuel? Do the plugs smell like gas? If you were getting fuel, the plugs would be fowled and not look like new. If you are not getting fuel or spark, I'm 99% sure its the crank position sensor...

Does it has the right crank sensor (24x or 56x<i think that's right)???. That is a wierd problem though. I would be atleast calling the builders and getting all specs of the build and what is "exactly" in there. I wish I had my diagrams with me right now. I do this stuff at work and love troubleshooting I'm a dork, sorry...

You can def hear a intake valve or 2 is hanging open.

you can also hear the uneven cyl pressuer by how it cranks fast then slower when it gets to the seald up cylender's

still should fire or have spark. I would double check all sensers cam, cranck ect

good luck

Thats what makes forums so worthless when trying to diagnose a problem like this.
Same builder built you guys the same engine, same guy programmed both=great.
He threw a few used parts in his build up and it won't start.
What else is used?

$10 throws in a new ignition relay. I had no spark intermittently. Little part went in and problem went away. It's been a month and I'm still fine. I start the car on Saturday mornings as the insurance is suspended for the winter. But, the goofey $10 part is worth the effort. I'm probably wrong, but $10 is no biggie and it eliminates an area of concern. Good luck and keep the thread alive with your results.

Flame suit on. Go to the dealer. They've got a zillion sensors that can point you in the right direction instantly. You can then fix it yourself. It's worth getting past the frustration. It really is, I know. I was ready to drop the car on a dealer and be done with it. NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTT any more. Good luck.

going out on a limb here, but is the crank reluctor the same as the motor that was pulled out? i know there are 24x on early LS2s and 58X on laters. all LS1s need the black sensor and a 24s wheel, IIRC. it may be as simple as a PCM edit or swap.

Just because you have fuel pressure in the rails does not mean that you are getting fuel into the cylinders. If your crank position sensor is not working then the computer won't send any spark to the plugs or signal to the injectors. Sounds like you have both those symptoms...

Thats what I'm thinking too. Whoever came over and programmed it needs to try a program with the different reluctor.

Point is--used parts don't always work, even if they were pulled off in working condition. So you can't always say

Because no used part is exactly the same as another used part.
