Default High mileage LS1s

I'm not sure if this is the right section, but I'm looking to buy a '98 Camaro Z28 with 159k miles on it. The owner says it runs great, but being around LS1 vehicles a lot, I get the impression these motors don't last over 170-180k miles without a rebuild. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Wow, sounds like he has a strong motor.

Anything I should look for in a very high mileage LS1?

just look for milky white substances in the oil, make sure oil pressure is good, pop radiator cap and look for sludge. The ls1 holds up pretty well

With 140K miles my stock LS1 with shorties got 29mpg and went 112mph in the quarter. A buddy swapped it into a 3rd gen and it's still going strong. If maintained it should be a 200K+ motor.

If it was taken care of there should be no problems.

Like stated above just make sure the oil pressure is good.

With 159k, I'm going to assume there is going to a bunch of squeaks and rattles. That is normal for f-bodies so don't freak out.

I looked at the car today. 159k and barely any squeaks or rattles. Oil looked healthy and motor pulled strong.
