Default CAM Swap

If doing a cam swap in an LS1, is it just straight forward?
Dont have to worry about the lifters falling out or anything?

What needs to be done?
Thanks for the spoon feeding!

I'm guessing the lifters need to be held up somehow..

You spin the cam and they are held up in plastic trays, hopefully. You can..

1. Swap cams and hope they don't fall

2. Use JRP Toll or 5/16" dia dowel rod to keep them from falling

3. Use 16 pen magnets to hold them up.

I did #2 with wooden dowel rod, bought a 3' piece and cut it in two.

ls1howto.com method is about all you need. I used wooden dowel as well. Good luck, it's a fun swap.

Yea that wouldn't be very fun. I had seen horror stories about the pen magnets so I opted for the dowels.

I have done about 5 swaps and all I have ever done was spun the cam a few times and pulled it out. I guess Im lucky never had a lifter fall yet. its pretty easy just take your time dont get in a hurry. One thing that I did learn was use loctite on your rocker bolts.(trust me)

I don't understand why anybody would want to use a wooden dowel. Seems like to me it would leave shavings and debri in the motor. I used steel dowels. You will need to grind a little bit off of one side of the pass. side rod. The part that you grind flat will go up and towards the middle. I used the LS1 how to so you should be fine. Good luck.

Although no many poeple practice it it is recomended to always:
1- Degree your cam
2- Measure PTVC (especialy on big cams)
