I am in the process on putting together a LS2 for my 69 camaro. I tightened up the LSA some and had 4 derees of advance ground in compared to my last LS motor I built. So now the intake valve is opening sooner and I have .018" intake p/v clearance

So I need an intake cutter. I didn't know if anybody had a 2.020" cutter they would rent out for 8 cuts. Or do you know anybody that might have one? PM me with info

Hardly needed. you can see the endmill tooling marks on the cutter head

turn a 8mm stem on a lathe, singlepoint, or use a die to get the threads you want on one end.

as for the cutting head, turn a piece of tool steel to the diameter you want. take it to the mill, find the end mill you want, stick it in a rotary table and make your cutting teeth, run over them with either a beveling tool, or kick the mill head sideways to get the chip clearance angle you want. take the bar back to the lathe, cut the top profile of the cutting head, part it off. drill and tap a hole for the 8mm rod to thread into. call it a day. (heat treat if you want)

not saying it wouldnt be a pain in the *** to make one, just you hardly need a CAD/CAM multi axis CNC to make one. a regular 3 axis manual mill , and a standard lathe with even a 3 jaw with varying soft jaws, is all it takes.

You are correct about indexing a flute on the piston top because, as you state, it can sit between flutes. I did the same and put a mark on the top of the cutter stem to mark flute direction. Thanks for mentioning this.

TTT for those looking at flycutting tools.
Could you explain some more about what you are talking about marking the flute. I am not following.

Thanks.

Just wondering if anybody has a set of these flycutting tools for ls3 heads they'd be willing to sell? I believe the valve sizes are 2.165 Intake and 1.59 exhaust. I need a set asap...

If you buy a set I would rent them from you to help you out on cost. I dont need them right away but will need them in a few weeks. I just need the intake valve one. Just a thought.
