Default G5X3 or MS3

I have a set of TSP 5.3 heads with a .04 thick head gasket and am wondering if either of these two cams will clear without fly cutting.

You might need to pick a camshaft with a wider LSA. Given that, I would opt for the G5X3, Great performer and high peak numbers. The MS3 is the same but lacks in DCR and SCR so under the curve numbers will be lower.

i know lots of guys are running the 5.3/MS3 setup!! but ive been wanting to see cars with those cams race.

I know the MS3 and TSP 5.3 combo is very popular, but I think they are all running stock thickness head gaskets and I have a .04 gasket. IIRC the stock gasket is .053.

Depends what you mean by "clear". My advice is call both sponsors, ask for the exact margins on both intake and exhaust.
Pick the ones you feel comfortable with.

If neither will fit with out PTV problems how much of a difference would it be from an X3 to an X2? I know the specs on both, Im just talking about overall performnce. IIRC the X3 is a 234/242 and X2 is 232/240.

I just ordered the LG G5X3 114 LSA camshaft. I have LPE ported LS6 heads milled to 61cc with .052 MLS gaskets. The valves are 2.02/1.55. I measured the valve drop at TDC, and there is .180 on the intake & .205 on the exhaust. There will be ~.057 PTV on the intake, and more than enough PTV on the exhaust because the cam is advanced ~4*.

PTV should be measured 10* BTDC on intake and 10* ATDC on exhaust. That is where contact will occur.
.057 at TDC can be less 10* before that, be very careful and measure correctly with a dial and wheel.

We've always measured by turning the engine a rotation, so we don't have to worry about 10* before or 10* above, yadda yadda. A full rotation covers it all.

So you measure PTV at BDC as well? or your measurement is if it turns over it "clears".
We are talking actual measurements using a degree wheel and dial

dont rule out that you could get new gaskets, just a thought, i just wouldnt let my gaskets effect my cam choice, more my cam choice effect my gaskets
