Default Question about 241 vs 243 Heads

I keep seeing 241 and 243 heads mentioned on this site so out of curiosity I looked under my hood and noticed that mine say 243 on them. What does that mean? My car is an '02 SS. The only reason I ask is that someone mentioned that their '02 Camaro has stock 241 heads. So, why does mine say 243?

If I'm lucky it's the first time. Are these LS6 heads that I've heard of? What is the difference between the two?

Yes they are the LS6 heads. Differences are in the chanber size, port volume, how much they flow and a few other things im forgetting. Im sure other people will chime in to fill in the rest.

Damn, I'll take it. So with these heads, LS6 intake, Lid, Cat back, and P&P TB, what kind of HP is my car making?

If the casting is really a 243 on the head they are not from the factory like this... No Fbody got the 243 heads some cars did get the LS6 block but non got the LS6 heads.

I heard from a good source within GM that the all the end of the 02 run (maybe it was late 01 and all of 02) all fbodies had LS6 bolcks. There is a little difference in appearence form the two foundaries, but they are all LS6 blocks. GM had no reason to continue casting LS1 blocks. I'm going off of memory on the details, but the general facts I know to be true.

As for the 243 heads in an Fbody...

You are correct. There was a thread like this a while ago. No Fbodies came from the factory with 243 heads period. Someone obviously put them on there or the original poster confused a 1 with a 3 and started a thread about it.

No confusion. They have "243" stamped on them.

So I guess that the previous owner could've placed 243 heads on my car and they could possibly be ported? That being said, it's also possible that he placed a CAM on the car? Damn, now I'm back to being confused again.

I posted a thread on here whenever I first got my car about this car coming alive around 2500+ RPM, almost like a Turbo kicking in. Someone replied that this is normal. Is it? Now I'm wondering if I have a head/cam package on this car. Any way to find out without tearing her apart?

So, to make sure that I have it right:

1) I do have LS6 heads
2) They are not stock
3) GM never put 243 heads on fbodies

Thanks for the comments.

No, I am the second owner. The car had 43K on the odometer. The PO traded it in for a new Corvette.

If you're not the original owner you may have a Z06 engine if the cam is LS6 too. You would know this because the car would be hard to keep under control in the first two gears at open throttle.

Are you serious or kidding? Is there anything that I can check for? The car, in fact, has no traction in first and second. Any more thoughts? Thanks.

Never mind, I saw where someone laughed. God, I'm such a newbie.
