the TR 224 cam should be pretty killer in that motor.

as for the intake, unless you went with a FAST i don't think you really have much reason to put on anything different.

tests i've seen put the truck intake very close to the ls6...so it wouldn't be worht the $$ to swap it.

x2 on teke184's openion.....

i would search the for sale section as well,...... there are some killer deals on there.....might pick up at least a ls6 intake or something.,.....otherwise fast 90 or leave it alone....
true duals......n2o......youve got tons of options......
i think suspension will tie up a lot of money if you want to plant the power to the ground
good luck man

Well if you decide to stay with the stock intake, 224/227 .571/.585 0n 113lsa. I have personally seen this particular grind propel an extended cab silverado w/ 5.3 to 12.70's on a small nitrous shot. Good cam, makes excellent power and has great drivability. A small pickup such as yours really doesn't need anything much bigger than this. Just my .02. Good Luck!!

in the 5.7l engines, idle is louder than stock...but absolutely daily driveable.

that is a pretty mild cam for the ls1....so it would be just above mild on a 5.3L

with the right tune, you'll never know its in there driving around town, other than having more power.

The cam has a noticeable lope but it has been very easy to tune. No idle issues or surging. He also reports 18-19 mpg on highway when he is not playing around. To be honest though, your drivability will only be as good as your tuner. Make sure research is done in that department as well.

+1. Just remember that 5.3's have small port heads due to bore size. You really don't need much more cam than that. You have to take into account flow capabilities of the head. They are mediocre at best in stock form so it isn't much need for anything bigger. Just my .02

With a 5.3 motor there will be absolutely no gain doing so. Every other cyl. head is designed for a larger bore. Going to say, a 241 casting, would drastically hamper performance mainly because of valve shrouding, a larger combustion chamber, larger ports, etc. I believe that casting has a 67cc combustion chamber. That alone is reason enough not to swap heads. Bigger is not necessarily better. With a small port, small cube motor port velocity is very important. I would step up to a 2.02 intake valve and leave the factory exhaust valve alone. I would definitely have a competent machinist do some mild port work on the exhaust port to smooth things out. The intake port could essentially be left alone for a mild street application.
The 5.3 thrives off of the fact that the heads have a small combustion chamber. I believe compression is 9.5:1, you could benefit by going to a thinner headgasket. Cometic .040 is perfect for improving quench and boosting compression slightly. No need in milling the cyl heads either. I feel that once you get your combo together it should move your S10 better than you might expect. I hope I have been helpful. Good Luck.

Im curious now too, My brother has an 07 tahoe with the 799 heads and these heads are equivalent of 243's!
Some C6 vettes and some TBSS have 1 243's on one side and 799's on another!
I got this reply from the vette forums.
"243 vs. 799 heads talked to GM research tonight.
I talked to Bob (Gohard777) and Mr. X. There is no difference between the two heads. The numbers tell what original mold the casting came from. 243 mold was done at GM Research, the 799 mold is used by other vendors. The same vendor will have 243 and 799 molds. The numbers are just a GM system for when the mold was made. If a head had a problem it helps them track down where the problem started. The only difference between the heads is production variance. Case closed. Thanks to Bob and Mr. X. Mr. X machined the first 243 heads himself at GM Research."

Kinda like how Patriot Performance takes a 035 Raw Head and turns it into a 243 head."

Which is it? Why would a 2.02 valve in a 5.3 head be any better than the stock 2.00 valve in 241 heads?

Personally, mildly porting both sides, milling to get the compression to at least 10.5:1 and use of a .040 gasket will really wake up a 5.3 with a 224/224 cam. For the size of the engine a 220/220 110+0 cam would work very well, and could get away with less static compression.

2.02 valve will help flow while still allowing the port to maintain good velocity. Like I said before the 241 casting is not a good choice for this size bore for multiple reasons.

The 5.3 and 241 heads have the same ports the difference in flow is due to the larger intake valve on the 241. I would stay away from the 2.02 valve on the 5.3 b/c it will shroud the valve way more than the stock 1.89 diameter. And a 224 cam in the 5.3 will lope pretty hard, I would go with 220 or smaller. Unless you mill the heads to bring up the compression the smaller cam will make more power(and be more drivable).

I completely understand that the 241 has larger chambers and larger ports, in addition to its larger 2.00 valves. I just don't understand why a 2.02 valve in a 5.3 head is not also shrouded by the smaller bore...
