Well here's the deal the old 918 were great when comp was getting the springs from Peterson's. Then they started getting them from pioneer and another company and the quality went in the can. So they revised the QC and put the blue stripe on them and they were ok for a little while. So they came out with the 928 which comp said to me were good for .625 lift and latter they just got rid of the old 918. So there is now no 928 just the newly revised 918 which is the 928 that have a silverish tint to them. We are running the new silver 918 on a TSP 233/239 no problem's yet.

I've seen posts with broken springs from all sorts of companys. I for one have the "Revised" 918s on my car right now, and so far have not had any trouble. I would like to know the circumstances to alot of failed spring threads. I think alot of people dont let their motor warm up and just stomp on it. Thats not good on springs. Also, has everyone with failed springs given them a heat cycle or two before red-lining their new cam?.. My only complaint with 918s is the single spring design. I would have liked the extra insurance of a dual spring. I've be sure to post if I have ant failures.

I just don't understand why anyone would go with the new "revised" 918 (which some are still having problems with obviously) when they can buy the PAC "old" 918 (part# SDL1600VS) from SDPC for only $122! It's the same spring as their old 918 that everyone loved and had great success with. Good to .600

yes...comp is based here where I live...the peterson springs were actually good to .650" supposedly but only advertised .600" so people wouldn't push the limits with higher lift cams... but if you're like me, I don't like pushing the limits; I like having some cushion. Anyone will tell you DONT get the 918's now, plain and simple. Get a good double spring. Oh and yeah the weight savings: not worth the risk of tearing stuff up...

Your right, **** does happen. And all manufacturing companies run into problems from time to time. I run a manufacturing operation so believe me I know this first hand. That being said, I still wouldnt' run the 918's. They have had too many problems as recent as the middle of last year according to what I read on here. It's not like we don't have other options, so why take a chance on them.

Agreed that every manufacture has problems. It's what a manufacture does to fix that problem is what sets them apart. To deny that there was a problem for over a year is unacceptable IMO.

We've been fortunate not to have any problems for 5-6 years and millions of springs. Mostly due to us fatigue testing the crap out of our batches and if there is a problem, those springs never hit the market.

After speaking with a sponsor today re: this exact question:

Socal is correct, the "New" "Revised" 918's aren't 918's at all. They are 928's.

Are people still avoiding these springs even though they're completely different?

I AGREE! Or you can buy the PAC 1518 and be good to .650 without a worrry. The real problem is whether you want to buy springs from somebody who is having them made by whoever the low bidder is or from an actual manufacturer with their company's reputation at stake. I bought the PACs.

And guess who uses PAC's for their LS springs? For the Beehive and Dual. Read my internal engine supplier and thats who sells them. No problem here to spin over 7,000 rpms with their Duals.

My "revised" 918 springs are doing just fine after 5k miles. I sleep well at night too. I remember back in the day when everyone was afraid of 400 small block Chevy engines. They had a bad reputation for overheating. I liked to fan the flame on that rumor as much as possible in order to keep the price down on 400 blocks. Ya'll enjoy your heavy dual springs, and I'll keep on with my bling bling silver 918s.
