Y pipe or true duels

If you ever plan on lowering TD's are prolly not a good idea. A good y can flow just as good and if you don't mind the noise a cutout is always an option. I may be mistaken and hope somebody will correct me but I believe Patrick G's 500 hp setup has a Y but it may have been a 4". If you are under that hp level I don't think you will find a benefit over a good 3" system. Stock is 2.5" of course. Not worth the headache IMHO. I have a Hooker SS headers and 3" catback sittin in my living room right now. Just looking for a used 3" catted Y to gut before the H/C install. If anybody has one lemme know!!

I like my duals better than the cat-back. I was lucky enough to have a friend that owns his own exhaust shop. For $360 bucks over the axle duals. All parts included. It is a little loud so if I made long trips I would want it a little bit quiter, but for just cruising the race mufflers work just fine.
You can listen to both in my sig. Which one do you like better?

stock exhaust is 2.75" mandrel bent...
most TDs will show more power in the peak over a catback...typically i hear about 10hp over the better flowing catbacks.
the sound is better in my opinion. just something about that dual pipes that really makes the rumble more appealing.
if you have a competent shop, there really isn't much headache to run dumped duals. over the axle...yeah that's trickier.
i build my Xpipe duals on my back in the driveway. mock up...tweak....mock up...tweak...then had it welded. had it welded a bit hastily...due to an oncoming hurricane in 2005 (wilma)...so it's not 100% perfect. but that was due to time constraints, not design or shop fault.

I think most would prefer the true dual setup (somewhat better sound and a small power gain), however I have Hooker long tubes, off road Y and an electric cutout that does the trick for me quite well. I don't mind the noise at all...it's kinda nice to actually be louder than most of the Mustangs I run into! HAHA!

I wouldn't doubt those times with the stock exhaust but my question is why? Cheap horsepower and better sound. Even if there was no power gain I would still put one on it. Stock is boring. The stocker doesn't sound or look good IMO.

why= cause the car is sleeper with it. (slicks and skinnies give it away though) The cutout that we put on it, makes a huge difference though, picking the car up 1 mph and into the 10.90's also. So yes, stock exhausts are restrictive, but it shows that fast times can be acheived thru stock exhausts.
