LQ9 Heads!

LQ9 Heads!
I am getting ready to buy some LQ9 stage III Patriot Performance Heads for my 2000 WS6. My question is can I go ahead and put the heads on my car, without having a better intake manifold, and have it still run good? I have Hooker LT headers and the TSP X Rumbler, but no intake yet. I just didnt wanna put the heads on my car and then it run like crap till I got the intake I want on there. What do you think?

The old style intake will NOT run like crap. Just won't flow as well. But you are approaching it correctly IMHO because even the old style intake manifold is plenty enough to feed a Heads/Longtubes with the stock cam.
Frankly, I wouldn't even consider upgrading the intake until heads + cam + longtubes are in. And when I finally got around to it, it would be a FAST 90/90.

Are you planning to run FI, or a lot of N20?
If not, stick with an LS6 style head for more compression, literally more 'bang' for your buck.
Are you planning to swap cams any time soon? Choosing a head that will work best with the desired 'final' combo makes the most sence. If you are going to be running a cam, but N/A, you don't want to lose any compression.

Thanks for all your help, The intake I want to get is the FAST 90/90, I am going to get a cam eventually, but not exactly sure when I will have the time to put it in. I have not done enough research yet to see what cam I want. Any suggestions with the LQ9?

Still dont understand the reason for the lq9 heads-are you going fi or nos, otherwise they are the wrong decision-plus i would wait till you get everything-that way you only need 1 tune

I thought the only diiference between the LS6 heads and the Lq9 was a bigger combustion chamber? Would you rather have 72cc than 64cc? Does anyone out there have an fbody with the LQ9 heads on? If so how does your car run?

Yes basically the only difference between LQ9 and LS6 heads are the combustion chamber. If you get 72cc it will lower the compression ratio, which will make less power. The LS6 heads will bring the compression up slightly, which make more power. Unless the car will be boosted, in which case you would use the larger combustion chamber to allow higher boost levels on the same octane fuel.
Sure there are f-bodies with LQ9 heads. Patriot used to weld the combustion chambers to make them smaller and sold them as LS6 "style" heads. They now use the LS6 casting. But, that's not the issue here. The problem is not the LQ9 head style, it is the Stage 3 porting option. This is designed for a larger bore and will not work well on a 346. The larger intake valve will be shrouded by the smaller cylinder, and that hurts flow. Plus the combustion chamber is machined with a larger OD so it matches the 4" or larger bore. This includes all Stage 3 heads regardless of casting number(So the same goes for a stage 3 LS6). So if you are stock cubes and normally aspirated stick with the LS6 or 5.3 heads(assuming you are set on stock ported heads).

lq9 heads. Also those stage three heads have way to big of valves in them and are meant for a 4inch bore or bigger.
